Every day, thousands of companies are registered in the world, but only a few of them will fall into the category of “famous brands”. Even fewer enterprises and the products they produce reach the point where their names become common names. All the more interesting is the fact that well-known brands of our time, as a rule, began their victorious march around the planet by accident.
So, for example, the world famous Coca-Cola drink was originally (in 1886) a medicine. It consisted of coca leaves and cola nuts (a plant of the family malvaceae). They treated them for nervous disorders, and Coca-Cola was sold in pharmacies, respectively. At that time, cocaine was not yet banned, and no one knew of its harm to health. The drug was often added to various drinks. The effect of their use was akin to the action of low-alcohol cocktails - relieved stress, amused, tones.
When cocaine was recognized as a harmful substance, Coca-Cola was accused of popularizing the drug. But it affected the sales of the scandalous drink in the most miraculous way: although cocaine was removed from Coca-Cola, its popularity increased dramatically at times. Many years have passed since then, and Coca-Cola conquered the whole world without firing a shot.
The most famous brands are the
names of products that have become
common nouns. So, for diapers, all the young mothers of the world should thank Victor Mills - a specialist at Procter & Gamble. It was he, caring for his little grandchildren, who invented a
one-time diaper, which, after lengthy experiments, Procter & Gamble began to produce under the name Pampers.
The first Chupa-Chups was created in Spain (1958) as an unprecedented lollipop candy, which made it possible not to get your hands dirty. After it, the confectioners came up with hundreds and thousands of lollipops, but only Chupa-Chups fell into the position of “famous brands”. By the way, the design of the logo "by acquaintance" to the owner of the company was drawn in 1969 by Salvador Dali himself. Its flower on the brand logo, although slightly modified, has survived to this day.
Daniel Swarovski, creating the first of its kind electric grinding machine for the purpose of cutting precious stones and crystal, had absolutely no plans to produce rhinestones. The idea came in the process. And it was so successful that famous brands were replenished with another household name. Swarovski named his new product in honor of the famous fraudster Strass, who gave out crystal fragments as diamonds.
Adidas and Puma are not only clothes of famous brands. These are the names of companies whose development history is worthy of a feature film. The two brothers, Adolf and Rudolph, having opened a small workshop for tailoring sports shoes, made their own surname the name of their company - Dasler. After the death of his father, the brothers quarreled so much that they not only divided the company in half, but even stopped talking. So, almost simultaneously, the world famous brands Adidas and Puma were born, which are still in fierce competition. I wonder if the brothers could achieve worldwide recognition if they continued to work together at Dasler?
