There are many good bait for fishing, but perhaps the most picky and difficult to store is bloodworm. Unfortunately, it’s far from always possible to buy it just before the fishing trip. And so every person who is keen on fishing should know how to store bloodworms.
To date, many storage methods have been invented, but all of them are complex and problematic. If there is a need to keep this bait alive for at least two weeks, then the following conditions must be met:
- when buying bloodworms, pay attention to its mobility, sluggish larvae are not subject to storage;
- After the purchase, sort out the bait and remove all the inactive and dead bloodworms. If this is not done, then all living larvae will soon die too;
- storage temperature should not exceed eight degrees.
Many inexperienced fishermen at least once heard about special cassettes, but few people know how to store bloodworms with their help. Directly the cassette itself is a plastic shallow tray with a lattice insert. Water is poured into this box, its level should cover the openings of the liner. It is no secret for fishermen that the best water for storing any bait is that taken from the reservoir where it lives. But if there is no way to dial it, a simple cool settled water will do.
All purchased bloodworms are laid out on the liner. Fifteen minutes later, all active living larvae will move through the trellis openings into the pallet, and only the dead and completely languid bloodworm will remain on the insert. It should be removed immediately. After this, it remains only to place the bait cassette in a cold place. Water is changed every day. Once a week, the tray is washed with soap in warm water. This is necessary in order to remove the mucus resulting from the decomposition of the dead bloodworm. An important secret to storing bloodworms for a long time is to prevent contact between dead and living larvae. The more often bait gets over, the more guarantees that it will remain suitable for fishing.
Bloodworms are especially valued when winter fishing is ahead. Winter is a time of active biting of many species of fish, and almost all of them will not abandon this bait. The best way to save bloodworms and get them alive for fishing is to put them in a newspaper. This method is especially popular among

. But the only rule that they do not observe is the elimination of dead larvae. That is why the purchased bloodworm does not live long without appropriate care.
To this method, all the rules of how to store bloodworms, so that it does not deteriorate, apply. It must be thoroughly washed and sorted. Then the larvae are spread on a double layer of a wet newspaper. The paper should be dampened, but not wet through. The larvae layer should be less than five millimeters. Next, the newspaper is folded in an envelope and put away in a dark, cold place, for example, on the lower shelf of the refrigerator. Sort out the bait and change the paper every two days. In this way, bloodworms can be stored for about two weeks.
