Today you have the opportunity to solve this riddle, because now we will examine in detail the mechanism for the gas lift chair and find out the principle of its operation.
Design
This mechanism is located between the seat and the wheels and is a long metal pipe covered with plastic on top. Outwardly, it resembles a tipping mechanism of a truck body. In fact, their principle of operation is the same, however, only its dimensions differ significantly from the dumping mechanisms in a smaller direction. Often, a gas lift for a chair has in its design a pneumatic chuck measuring 13-16 centimeters in size (depending on the type of chair itself). How big this value will be, the higher it can lift the chair.
The principle of operation and device
And now in more detail about how the gas lift for a chair works. Immediately, we note that its principle of operation is very easy to understand. And his whole work is as follows. The steel casing, which we can see under the plastic sheathing, contains a small cylinder inside. It has a rod with a piston, which provides the lifting and lowering of the entire structure. As a rule, there are 2 tanks in the cylinder itself, between which there is a valve that moves the gas lift for the chair. It can open or close, and the direction of movement of the rod will depend on what position it will be in now.
If the seat is in its lowest position, the piston is at the top of the cylinder. When you need to lift it, by pressing the lever, the piston presses on a special button, which opens the valve between the two chambers.
At the same time, gas enters the second chamber from the reservoir of the first chamber, as a result of which the device begins to slowly lower. In this case, the seat itself rises. When the button closes, the gas supply to the tanks stops, respectively, the rod freezes in a certain position. If the gas lift for the chair needs to be lowered, when an additional load (the mass of your body) is applied and the lever located at this mechanism is pressed, the gas moves from the second chamber to the first, while the piston rises. Thus, the seat again lowers down.
Is it possible to repair it?
Unfortunately, this mechanism cannot be restored in any way. If the tank has been damaged, replacement of the gas lift in the chair is inevitable. It should be noted that inside the device there is gas under high pressure, so manufacturers strongly recommend not opening this device, and even more so, beating it with a hammer.
