Syktyvkar International Airport is the main airport of the Komi Republic and the only one in the city; at Syktyvkar airport are based Komiaviatrans airlines.
History
The history of civil aviation of the Komi Republic and the city of Syktyvkar begins in 1925, when the hydroplane first landed on the Sysole River. Since then, aircraft began to land on water or on snow in convenient places near the city.
The first airport in Ust-Sysolsk (formerly Syktyvkar) was created in 1929. It was a barracks-type building with one runway and was located in the same place where the modern airport stands. In the 30s, long, regular flights began to open to Vorkuta, Kirov and Arkhangelsk, and the technical staff consisted of more than a dozen aircraft.
The new large Syktyvkar airport and its modern terminal were built in 1967. Today it is a class B airport , serving an average of 750 people per day and about 20 flights per day.
Characteristic
The length of the only runway of the Syktyvkar airport is 2.5 thousand meters, and the width is 50 meters. This allows the airport to accept moderate aircraft. The types of the largest aircraft landing in Syktyvkar vary from Tu-204 and AirbusA320, to IL-76 and An-12.
Two terminals, domestic and international, were reconstructed and repaired in 2011, and in 2012 a decision was made to continue the construction of the Syktyvkar-Yuzhny Airport. In the 80s. the construction of a new large airfield 20 km from the city was frozen, and now it is planned to attract investment to complete the project.
Location
The airport is located within the city, 10 minutes walk from the motor station, where bus services depart to other cities of the Komi Republic. Central Station is 4 km from the airport, and Central Park. Michurina is a 20-minute walk away.
In fact, the city was built around the airport, since Ust-Sysolsk was quite small, the first building of the airport was originally outside the city, in the town of Kirul. Today, the name of the place is preserved in the heritage of the city as the Kirul market, which is located immediately outside the territory.
How to get there
Despite its convenient location, it is not easy for guests of the capital of the Komi Republic to find Syktyvkar Airport. Its address is the intersection of Kolkhoznaya and Sovetskaya streets, its legal address is 167610, ul. Sovetskaya, 86. Due to its location almost in the center of the city, it is very easy to get to the airport by public transport. A taxi will cost 130-150 rubles, and without baggage you can go to Syktyvkar airport on foot. A city map is available both in mobile applications and in newsstands.
City buses take you directly to the airport building. Route No. 5 runs from the building of the central railway station to the airport with an interval of 15 minutes, daily from 06:00 to 22:30. Also to the stop “Airport” there are bus routes No. 3, 12, 22 and 174.
Despite the fact that the capital of the Komi Republic is a small city by size and population, traffic is difficult at rush hour, and a bus ride from the railway station to the airport can take 35 minutes instead of 20. Taxis that cover this distance in 10 minutes at rush hour it can take 20-25 minutes. Taxis are best called by phone, otherwise there is a risk of overpaying twice as much.

Syktyvkar Airport has the ability to receive aircraft for landing at the next meteorological minimum - visibility is 800 meters, cloud height is 60 meters (according to international standards). Despite the weak technical load of 275 thousand passengers a year and its small size, the Syktyvkar airport is developing very dynamically and provides excellent service to both passengers and aircraft.
