How to install drivers on the monitor: methods, instructions

As a rule, stationary computer monitors, for the most part, even when they are first connected to a video card connector or a special motherboard slot, do not require drivers to be installed and immediately start working in normal mode. However, many gamers or users involved in graphics processing sometimes encounter situations where control software for non-standard equipment needs not only to be installed, but also updated (for example, to access some additional features). Even worse, when the monitor is not detected by the operating system at all, and the most suitable driver installed by it is ultimately useless and inoperative. Read more about how to install drivers on a monitor. Below are a few basic and alternative options that no user should have difficulties in using.

How to install drivers on the monitor when buying a new device?

Every user who has ever bought computer equipment in specialized stores knows that along with the purchased device, a special disk with drivers and additional software is necessarily supplied with it, which may be necessary for the correct operation of the device itself or will ensure the most complete use of its hidden features. How to install drivers on the monitor in this case?

Monitor driver disk

It is enough just to run the installer directly from the media with the drivers, where it will usually be presented as an executable EXE file (something like Setup.exe). If at startup, a special window starts, in which you can select the desired action, first select the driver installation item, and only then install additional software.

What to do if the first method does not give an effect, and the system does not detect the monitor?

But let's assume that the driver did not install using the standard method. How to install drivers on the monitor in this situation? First, make sure the system recognizes it. To do this, in Windows 7, you can use the design and personalization section in the "Control Panel", go to the monitor tab through the screen and permission sections and see what is indicated there. If the system determines the device in the form of a standard PnP monitor, this will mean that the corresponding software is not installed, but the most suitable driver is installed instead.

Universal PnP Monitor

Click the properties and monitor type buttons, in the running Wizard, enable the display of a complete list of devices.

Display a complete list of equipment

Then, install “Monitors” for the equipment, indicate the manufacturer and brand of the device (if you know the model), then select the driver installation from the disk and use the browse function to set the path to the directory where the required installer may be located (but not an EXE file, but an object with the extension INF). Further it remains only to press the confirmation buttons. At the end of the steps, return to the window where the standard monitor was displayed and make sure that its name has changed, which will mean the successful installation of the necessary control software.

Note: You can perform similar actions directly in the “Device Manager”.

Using official manufacturers resources

It can be assumed that you do not have a disk, but you know the brand of the device (it can be indicated directly on the monitor panel or on the etiquette at the back). For example, you need to install drivers on the LG monitor. There is nothing easier than going to the manufacturer’s official website, finding the driver download section there, downloading the installer for your model, and after downloading install the driver yourself, as is the case with the disk. If the driver is loaded in INF-format, you can try installing it through the PCM menu on the file itself. In the case of a message stating that this type of installation is not supported, perform the update through the “Device Manager”, specifying the location of the file through the browse function, or by automatically searching for drivers on the local computer.

Installing monitor drivers using universal utilities and driver databases

Third-party automated programs look much more powerful. Firstly, they are very easy to use, and secondly, their databases are often much superior to the databases of the Windows systems themselves. And similar programs determine the equipment on their own. Suppose you have a problem installing drivers on a Samsung monitor or any other device. You do not need to search for it yourself in the list of supported equipment. Use the DriverPack Solution database.

DriverPack Solution Driver Package

The program after launch will detect your monitor and install everything you need, even without access to the Internet. If the connection is active, the driver will be automatically updated to the most current version.

In the same way, you can simply use applications like Drive Booster, which was originally designed to update drivers. Despite this, the program automatically recognizes all installed equipment, and then installs both updated and missing drivers, referring directly to the Internet resources of device manufacturers and developers of the corresponding software.

Self-determination of the type of device and search for the right driver

Finally, let's see what can be done if you do not know either the manufacturer or model of the monitor. In the “Device Manager” through RMB on a monitor or device that was not recognized, call the property item and go to the information tab.

Monitor ID Definition

Here, select the display of the ID of the equipment in the list, copy the longest line in which the values of the VEN and DEV identifiers will be displayed, search for the driver on the Internet on it, download to the computer, and then install using one of the methods suggested above.

Possible equipment malfunctions after installing or updating control software

But what if, after installing the drivers, the monitor goes blank or does not work as expected? The reasons for this phenomenon can be very many, but most often it can only be explained by the fact that the driver either is not exactly appropriate for your device, or there were failures during its installation, or the updated driver by your monitor is not supported at all.

Monitor driver rollback

In this situation, the easiest way is to use the “Device Manager”, where you can try to roll back on the driver tab. If this does not help, but you know for sure that there were no problems with the monitor update, use the standard system recovery tool and select the proposed list of rollback points that is earlier in time than the moment the crash occurred.
