The founding date of the Magnitogorsk airport is considered to be August 15, 1930, since it was then that the Soviet pilot Pichugov S.G. The first flight was performed on a Junkers foreign-made aircraft. The airline was actively expanding, in 1932 an airport terminal was already built. Regular flights were opened in 1933 along the route Sverdlovsk - Magnitogorsk.

In the 1960s, flights to Aktyubinsk and the Minvody began to be operated, and the Magnitogorsk Aviation Squadron was formed.
1970 was marked by the commissioning of a new terminal building. By 1975, the airfield was capable of receiving An-26 and An-24 aircraft, and since 1992, the Yak-42.
The first international flight was completed in July 1994 in the direction from Magnitogorsk to Istanbul and back with refueling to Sochi. By 1999, the runway and the terminal building were reconstructed.
In the period from 2000 to 2012, Magnitogorsk Airport received admission to the reception of aircraft of domestic and foreign production.
