The paragraph in Word is that part of formatting that may be necessary or, on the contrary, superfluous. That is why in the article we will understand, not only how to do it, but also how to clean it. Two methods will be considered how to indent a paragraph in Word. It is recommended that you read the article to the end to decide which method is best for you.
Turn on the ruler
The first method, which we will consider, is the standard and the fastest, but, despite this, it is inferior to the second in that it is impossible to indent by exactly the specified distance with it - everything is done "by eye".
So, before you make a paragraph in Word with a tool such as a ruler, you must first enable it. If you already have it displayed, then you can skip this item.
Turning it on is pretty simple. This is done the same way for all versions of the program. You need to go to the "View" tab (usually it is the most extreme) and there, in the "Show" column, put a check mark next to the "Ruler" tool. As soon as you do this, it will appear in your program.
Indent using a ruler
Now you can safely make a paragraph in the Word. For this we need only one ruler - horizontal. It is located on top. There are four sliders on it - one on the right and three on the left. We immediately forget about the right one, we do not need it. But on the left we pay attention only to the top one, it is he who is responsible for the indentation of the first line of the paragraph.
Before dragging the slider to the right side, thereby forming a paragraph, make sure that you select the part of the text in which you want to indent. If everything is in order, then feel free to move the slider to the distance you need.
We go into the settings. "Paragraph"
The first method, how to make a paragraph in the Word, we have considered, but it does not work if you need to retreat to the exact distance. Just the scale of the line does not allow this. But the method that we will now consider will help us in this.
First you need to enter the paragraph settings. There are several ways to do this. Both of them are quite simple and fast, so it's up to you to decide which one to use.
You can right-click anywhere in the document and select the line "Paragraph" in the context menu. Or you can click on the corresponding icon in the same box in the toolbar. Just make sure the Home tab is open.
Indent using the paragraph settings
As a result, you will enter the paragraph settings. You will see a window in which you should pay attention to the area called "Indent". Here we are only interested in the drop-down list and the field for entering values on the right. In the drop-down list, you need to select "Indent", and in the field on the right, respectively, enter the value to indent. After you decide, click "OK" and you will see the result.
It is worth recalling that before carrying out all the actions, make sure that the part of the text in which you want to make paragraphs is highlighted.
Get rid of excess
Well, now it's worth talking about how to remove paragraphs in Word. This will be relevant if you downloaded a document from the Internet, and formatting does not suit you in it, in particular paragraphs.
We will consider two methods opposite to those given above. That is, we will do the same thing, just the opposite.
For example, if you indented with a ruler and want to remove it later, then you need to take the top slider and drag it to the left side until the line matches the rest of the paragraph.
If you want to remove the indent from the “Paragraph” settings menu, then enter them and select “No” in the “First line” drop-down list. After that, click OK, and the paragraphs will disappear.
