Nowadays, the presence of several computers in a family is no longer a whim, but a quite common phenomenon. In addition to them, almost every person has a smartphone, and sometimes a tablet. And all these devices, one way or another, use the Internet, which has become for many a daily necessity. In connection with the situation, it becomes clear that the purchase and subsequent configuration of the router are inevitable.
Before you purchase a device, you should understand why it is necessary. In a home network, the load is rarely higher than one hundred megabits per second, and the number of simultaneously connected devices almost never exceeds six, including a small home server where rarely needed files will be stored. Accordingly, information about how the Cisco router is configured becomes unnecessary to us, since these devices are aimed at entire large companies with a large data flow per second and the need for uninterrupted stable operation. The price of such equipment is extremely high, and only a good professional can introduce it into the network so that subsequently there are no problems.
For home use, routers from Asus and D-Link are excellent. Zyxel products can only be purchased at your own risk. The quality there varies from device to device, so it can be either very good or very poor, depending on the particular assembly, firmware and the microchip used.
Setting up a router from Asus is a pleasure. Most of the providers are listed by developers in a specially formed list of settings that goes on disk with the device. By inserting the compact disc into the computer and clicking on the special button on the router, you can save yourself fifteen minutes of time, since the setup will take place automatically, and the user only needs to click "Next".
Setting up a router from D-Link is another matter. This device is more focused on the professional than on the average user who does not want to understand the intricacies of software. The positive side of these routers is that in recent years the interface has come to a standardized look, convenient for any person. Previously, it was an unusual command line for a modern user with small splashes of a not-so-functional graphical interface.
Settings of this type of router include entering the address provided by the provider (most often this step is skipped). Then you need to go to the Wan tab and select the necessary method of obtaining the Internet, if it is unknown, then you need to check with the provider. Usually, either PPTP or L2TP is selected here, since other types of connections are not widespread in Russia. At this stage, the basic setup ends, and now the Internet should work. You may also need to add
a routing table to make the local network work, but instructions for setting it up can be found on local forums.
