Munich Airport ... It is unlikely that there will be many among the inveterate tourists who have never in their life heard of this amazing and truly convenient place for travel. And some even managed to take advantage of his services, traveling around Europe or changing planes for a further flight to South or North America.
Section 1. Munich Airport. general information
These world-famous international-class air gates are located 30 km from the city and are a modern complex with well-developed infrastructure and high-tech equipment.
It should be noted that this is the second largest airport in Germany. In general, the airline operates cargo and passenger transportation and accepts flights from 250 cities of the world. It also has direct connections with some cities in Russia.
Two 4 km runways allow you to receive any type of aircraft. However, there is a ban on the reception of so-called "noisy aircraft."
Surprisingly, the annual passenger flow is actually quite impressive and amounts to almost 10 million people. The base airline of the airport is the national airline Lufthansa.
Section 2. Airport Infrastructure
Munich Airport includes many services that provide catering, relaxation and leisure for visitors. These include various shops, cafes, banks, a pharmacy, Internet services, lounges, etc.
There are comfortable hotels and hotels near the building. Convenient location allows passengers to easily get here at any time of the day. From the train station you can get into the city and other points in Germany. On the A9 highway, special buses run Munich: Station - Airport.
Section 3. Baggage Check-In
If necessary, anyone can hand over their bags and suitcases upon arrival at the airport.
You don’t even need to carry anything on your own, because for transportation of things they use carts, which are enough here. The building has 24-hour automatic left-luggage office and luggage storage facilities. Such services in an automatic left-luggage office have the following approximate prices (price is indicated per day):
- hand luggage weighing up to 5 kg - 3.5 euros;
- baggage up to 20 kg - 4.5 euros;
- cargo weighing up to 30 kg - about 8 euros.
At the baggage claim points, the checkout time starts at 12 a.m. For example, if you leave things from 9 p.m. to 9 a.m., payment will be charged for two days (from 9 p.m. to 0.00 p.m. and from 0.00 p.m. to 9 a.m.).
Section 4. Shopping at the airport
In general, all travelers are interested in two global questions: "How to get to Munich Airport?" and "What to take with you on the road?" We managed to close the first, now we will deal with the second.
I would like to note right away that it is not recommended to take huge trunks with souvenirs and food. Why? The fact is that in the airport shops you can buy anything, and at fairly low prices.
True, tourists mostly buy food. Especially if the arrival in Munich fell on Saturday evening. On Sundays, grocery stores in the city are closed and you can’t buy anything. Many recommend the Edeka store, located on the 3rd level in the central part of the airport opposite the rental desks. The store is open from 5.30 in the morning until 0.00 at night.
All outlets are easy to find. In principle, it is difficult to find a place more understandable than Munich Airport. The structure diagram is nevertheless placed on special stands and is found, as they say, on every corner.
Section 5. Where can I eat?
Hungry while waiting for a flight, you can stop by and sample local specialties at Surf Restaurant, opposite SIXT counters.
But that is not all. On the territory of Munich Airport at the 3rd level between the 1st and 2nd terminals there is a brewery, where you can also have a bite to eat and taste delicious fresh beer.
Many say that the architects did their best when designing the Munich airport. Arrivals, for example, can be seen from almost any part of the building.
Section 6. Where to stay inexpensively for the night?
Usually this question arises if the arrival or departure of the aircraft is expected at night. In this case, many simply stay overnight in the airport building and spend the night on benches in the waiting room. Agree, not very convenient.
Others prefer to rent hotel rooms. There are two hotels on the territory of the Munich air terminal - Kempimski and Novotel. According to some reviews, the Kempinski hotel has quite high prices. The most budgetary is Novotel.
Within a radius of 5 km from the airport there are other hotels that offer rooms at affordable prices. You can familiarize yourself in advance with the list of hotels where you can spend the night on the official website. Munich Airport updates information regularly.
Section 7. Airport Hotels
Novotel offers low cost accommodation and is great for business travelers. Prices largely depend on the type of apartment. The rooms have a modern design and are equipped with everything necessary for a comfortable stay of visitors. It has eight conference rooms equipped with air conditioning, Internet and special equipment. Convenient location allows easy access to the terminals, the city of Freising, Munich city center or the exhibition center.
Another Kempinski Hotel Airport Munchen airport hotel also has comfortable rooms, bars, a swimming pool, a restaurant, SPA services and laundry. Next to it is a parking lot. If necessary, secretarial services and wake-up calls are provided. Each room is equipped with a minibar and a private bathroom with all amenities.
The hotel is located near the center of Oberding, which allows tourists to walk to many cultural and leisure facilities. You can also reserve a seat on the bus on the route Munich: Airport - City Center. A ticket for travel is purchased right there. Prices are at the usual box office, without any fees and commissions.
Section 8. How to get to the city?
Electric trains are the most convenient means of transportation from Munich Airport to the city. City S1 lines follow in transit through Neufarn, Moosach, Lyme, Marienplatz to the East Station and back.
The other S8 line goes towards the Main Station, but through the East Station. Tickets (The Airport-City Day Ticket) are purchased at the terminal in special vending machines.
This ticket allows you to use all types of public transport until 6 am the next day. Its cost is 11.20 euros. For 20.40 euros you can buy a group ticket (up to 5 people). Price indexing is based on inflation. Long-distance and regional trains, as well as metro lines (U-bahn), depart from the Main and Eastern railway stations. The way to the Main Station takes 45 minutes, and to the East - 53 minutes. Electric trains run from 4 a.m. to 1 a.m.
An alternative to the train is the Lufthansa Airport Bus, which connects Munich Airport with its suburbs (the cities of Freising, Erding, etc.). The bus stop is located at the Nordfriedhof metro station and at Munich Central Station. You can order tickets online, cost 9.50 euros. The main station can be reached in 45 minutes.
You can get into the city by taxi, whose parking is located near terminals No. 1, No. 2 and in the northern part of the Central zone of the E03 level. Orders are accepted by phone or at the airport counter. The journey to the center of Munich will take about 40 minutes and will cost about 60 euros.
