Ulyanovsk Airport is located within the city. It is also known under a different name - Barataevka, because it is located near the village of the same name.

The construction of the airfield complex began in 1925. At that time, the fleet consisted of 10 aircraft. After 10 years, specialized courses on higher flight training were opened at its base.

The airport building began to be built in 1955. Then the airport was able to serve a small passenger flow - only 50 people in an hour. In the 70s, a new airport building was erected, making it possible to serve up to 400 passengers per hour. The airport provided communication between Ulyanovsk and all major cities of the USSR.

The terminal is a two-story building. On the ground floor there is a luggage system, a preflight inspection area, a waiting room, a medical unit, ticket offices and places for passengers to relax. On the second floor there are two cafes, a waiting room, a sterile and pre-flight inspection area, administrative and technical premises.

Ulyanovsk-Tsentralny Airport is one of the fastest growing regional air transport hubs and has federal significance.

The airfield is equipped with two runways, as well as a third - reserve. The first runway has an artificial reinforced concrete coating and the dimensions are 3826 by 60 m. The second and third have a primer coating. The dimensions of the second are 800 by 60 m, of the third by 2500 by 100 m.

The second lane is intended for aircraft with category A. Spare runway - for emergency landing of all types of aircraft.

Flights from the airport are carried out in the following directions:

Moscow flights are operated every day. Flights to Simferopol are operated once a week on Sundays. Flights to Nizhny Novgorod are operated three times a week - on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
