The Opera and Ballet Theater (Astrakhan) opened more than a century ago. In 2012, he moved to a new, modern, well-equipped building. The repertoire includes operas, ballets, concerts, musical tales, vaudeville and so on.
Theater History
The Opera and Ballet Theater (Astrakhan) was opened in 1899. A wooden building was built for him. There was no troupe, therefore only touring artists performed here. Celebrities very often appeared on the stage of the Astrakhan Theater: F.I. Chaliapin, M.N. Ermolova, L.V. Sobinov, V.F. Komissarzhevskaya, I.S. Kozlovsky and others. In 1976, the building burned down. Soon a new building was built in its place.
With the opening of a conservatory in Arkhangelsk, the city itself began to train personnel for its theater. Since 2000, Mikhail Astanin has been the director. October 2012 was significant for the theater. The troupe showed M. Mussorgsky’s opera Boris Godunov in the open air near the walls of the Astrakhan Kremlin. The audience of the action was 4 thousand people.
In addition to performances, the Musical Opera and Ballet Theater (Astrakhan) organizes exhibitions, forums, workshops, and creative meetings. Competitions of creative works are held for young viewers.
The stars of world music perform on the stage of the Arkhangelsk opera: Denis Matsuev, Lyubov Kazarnovskaya, Terem-Quartet, Sofya Gulyak, the Presidential Orchestra of the Republic of Belarus and many others.
The theater has become a real attraction of Arkhangelsk. Not only residents of the city like to visit him, but also guests, newlyweds make wedding photos against his background, souvenirs are produced with his image.
Building
In 2010, a new Opera and Ballet Theater (Astrakhan) was built. A photo of the building is presented in this article. The old building was not intended to bring new creative tasks to life. There is an urgent need for a more modern theater house. And President V.V. Putin made such a gift to artists and citizens in honor of the 450th anniversary of Astrakhan. Competition for the best project for a new building was announced in 2006. The victory was won by an architect from the capital A.M. Denisov. According to his project, a theater was built.
The new building is a multifunctional complex. It was built using the latest modern technology. The stalls of the auditorium are transforming, double-glazed windows delay ultraviolet, the architectural decor is made of fiberglass concrete. The complex is equipped with modern exhibition equipment: special lighting system, air conditioning, climate control, alarms and fire extinguishing system. Around the theater there is a beautiful park with fountains, a botanical garden and playgrounds.
The construction of the building was completed in 2012. The first performance, shown on the new stage, was the opera The Queen of Spades.
Opening of a new building
In honor of the opening of its new building, the Opera and Ballet Theater (Astrakhan) organized a grand concert on October 27, 2011. Honored guests took part in it - the Mariinsky Theater Orchestra led by conductor Valery Gergiev. The concert performed the oratorio "Ivan the Terrible", Symphony No. 7 of Sergei Prokofiev. The hall was full. Residents of the city were looking forward to the opening of the theater. A new career began very successfully.
