History of MAMT

Theater named after Stanislavsky
Musical Theater named after Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko appeared as a result of the union of two studios: the opera and drama at the Bolshoi Theater under the direction of K.S. Stanislavsky and the music at the Moscow Art Theater, which was organized by V.I. Nemirovich-Danchenko. Each of them studied in their premises, according to their program and had their own repertoire.

Since 1926, both studios have been housed in the same building, where the musical theater is now located. They worked independently of each other, each had its own directorate. The only thing that united them was the orchestra, which accompanied the performances of both the studios. Soon everyone turned into an independent theater.

In 1929, a ballet troupe created by V. Krieger was joined to the studio of Vladimir Ivanovich. The union with the Stanislavsky Theater took place in 1941, after the death of Konstantin Sergeyevich. The repertoire included operas and ballets of contemporaries: T. Khrennikov, S. Slonimsky, D. Kabalevsky and others.

During the Second World War, the theater was not evacuated; it continued to work and gave performances even when the battle for Moscow was on.

Since 1951, the student of Vladimir Ivanovich, L. Baratov, took the post of chief director. He is the first to stage the production of S. S. Prokofiev's opera War and Peace on the Moscow stage. Her premiere took place in 1957.

Then the place of L. Baratov was taken by L. Mikhailov. The theater with him began to actively collaborate with the Berlin Komische Oper, with directors V. Felsenstein, G. Kupfer, choreographer T. Schilling and contemporary composers.

History of the Electric Theater

Drama Theater. Stanislavsky has a rich history. The building that it now occupies, exactly 100 years ago, in 1915, was converted from a tenement house into the Ars Electric Theater. It was the largest and well-equipped cinema for that time, which closed when Soviet power came to the city. After that, theaters temporarily functioned in the building. But they all did not take him long. Then the premises passed to the drama theater named after K. S. Stanislavsky. This happened when the opera studios of Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko merged into one. Pupils of Konstantin Sergeyevich, who studied drama, separated from the opera studio and became the first artists of the new theater. The troupe was headed by M. Yanshin at that time. In 1950-1960, a magnificent cast of such famous actors as E. Leonov, M. Menglet, V. Korenev, E. Urbansky, L. Satanovsky formed.

The successor of M. Yanshin’s case was B.A. Lvov-Anokhin, who stood at the helm of the theater in 1963. The repertoire at that time was quite unusual for the Soviet era. The most successful production was considered "Antigone" based on the play by J. Anoui, where E. Nikishikhina played the main role .

The 70s of the 20th century were a crisis period, which ended when A.A. Popov became the main director . He realized productions that influenced all theatrical art - Vassa Zheleznogo and The Adult Daughter of a Young Man.

In the 1980s, A. Tovstonogov became the leader. Then the premieres of the plays “Noah and His Sons” based on the play by Y. Kim, “Impromptu Fantasy” by V. Tokareva, “Housewarming in the Old House” by A. Kravtsov, “Threshold” by A. Dudarev and others took place.

From 1990 to 2013 the theater has changed a lot of managers. In 2013, Boris Yukhananov was chosen as the artistic director on a competitive basis. In the same year, the theater decided to give a new name that would reflect the history of the building, too, so now it is called the Stanislavsky Electrotheatre. This name is also given the second meaning - “theater of light”. Reconstruction of the building, updating its appearance were completed only now - at the end of January 2015. A large transformer hall was created and an additional building with a small stage was built. The opening of the updated theater took place on January 26, 2015.
