How did it all start?
The history of the flag of motorized rifle troops begins with the autumn events of 1550. At that time, Ivan the Terrible issued a decree according to which October 1 is considered the day of the creation of the "permanent army of Russia", the basis of which was made up of thousands of serving people from Moscow and district counties. Despite the fact that the MSV is part of the Ground Forces, which celebrate their day on October 1, motorized riflemen today celebrate their professional holiday on another day. According to military experts, the tsar laid the foundations for the formation of the Russian regular army. During the reign of Ivan the Terrible, the standing army was represented by streltsy regiments.
About the banners
According to experts, the flags in the time of Ivan the Terrible had a very respectful and sacred attitude. Each banner had its own story, full of victories, feats and hundreds of lives given. The red color of the front caftans of the royal archers was the first basic color used in regimental banners. A religious image was applied to the banner.
Regimental banners were intended solely for special occasions. Streltsy regiments used company (hundred) banners containing shades of red and green as a permanent flag. There were also “fraternal” (fiftieth) flags. This regalia was a small-sized piece of multi-colored matter, on which a cross or another geometric figure was depicted.
"Knee-deep in blood"
During the reign of Peter the Great, soldiers, sergeants, and officers who served in the Preobrazhensky and Semenovsky regiments were allowed to wear red stockings. This became a distinctive sign for the heroism shown in the battles near Narva. Then the infantrymen, providing cover for the retreating streltsy troops, were forced to stand in close formation in the lowlands knee-deep in their blood. In honor of the courage shown by the Russian infantrymen, the flag of the motorized rifle troops received the name "Knee-deep in Blood."
In the years of the USSR
In Soviet times, a pentagram, a five-pointed star, was applied to the flag of motorized rifle troops. This spiritual component symbolized protection and safety. In addition, the five-pointed star recalled the great sacrifice made by the peoples who sacrificed their lives in the wars for the Russian Empire, and then the Soviet Union.

In the center of the small circle is a wreath of oak leaves. Immediately, the developers allocated a place for two crossed machines. Among the wide range of other types of weapons, the choice fell on the machine, since it is considered the main weapon of the infantryman. On both sides of the great circle, St. George's ribbons are roaring. Above it at the very top of the flag there is an inscription: "Mobility". Below under the circles is the word: "Maneuverability." It was these two words that were chosen for a reason, because they symbolize the successful and effective work of motorized rifles.
