Torrent setup

uTorrent is a Windows client for BitTorrent networks, it works perfectly under all versions of Microsoft OS: from Win98 to Windows 7. Its main advantages: small size (about 900 kilobytes in the third version) and very wide functionality embodied in a simple and convenient interface. It is important to note that uTorrent is absolutely undemanding to resources and works great even on old hardware. All these advantages together provide uTorrent the first place in the world in popularity. Different studies cite the following figures: from 40 to 50 million users of the approximately 70 million who used torrent trackers in 2010 chose uTorrent.

Despite the fact that setting up a torrent uTorrent is quite simple, in most cases it is generally neglected, leaving all options to the conscience of the creators of the program. Nevertheless, practice shows that setting up a client “for oneself” definitely makes sense.

Correct configuration of the torrent uTorrent, first of all, includes actions to reassign the paths by which the torrent client will post its working files and content downloaded from the network.

By default, the program stores all the files in its folder on drive C. In addition, if your system drive is littered with files, it also poses a nuisance such as running out of space on drive C, which slows down the system and can potentially cause a complete the inability to load the OS if there is less space left than is necessary to run.

To prevent such a development of events, I advise you to reassign the directory for storing downloads to disk D or E, if, of course, you have one.

This torrent setting is located on the path "Settings> Program Settings> Folders> Location of downloaded files."

If you select "D", the path will look something like this D: \ Torrents \ Files \.

In the same place, but below, you can change the path for storing .torrent files, that is, files that start downloading content. It is better to store these files in a separate directory, in case of any problems they will help you restore already made downloads.

They can be placed at "D: \ Torrents \ Files \ Torrent_files".

We figured out the location of the content files, you can go to other points, for example, to the most interesting thing for any user - to increase the download speed.

In the menu "Settings> Program Settings> Folders> Speed" there are several items that directly affect how fast and in what modes the content of your choice will load.

Setting the torrent speed consists in changing the value of the item “Maximum number of connections”, here we insert the number 128.

In the field "Maximum connected peers per torrent" it is recommended to set the number 16.

In the "Number of downloads per torrent" cell, you can put the number 4-8, depending on the speed of your connection to the network.

After the setting of the torrent in the speed section is completed, you can go to the Caching menu "Settings> Program Settings> Folders> Advanced> Caching".

The upper options can be skipped, they do not interest us, just look down. Here, the torrent setting is hidden for various options for recording caching, but my advice is to disable this recording caching altogether. If you leave it turned on (this is especially true for those who have little RAM), after a while the computer starts to slow down and even freeze due to the lack of RAM into which uTorrent has packed its cached data.

That's all the basic settings that should be changed when installing the uTorrent client, if you were wondering what the other options that are not described in this material affect - I advise you to look for their description on the network, there are plenty of articles on this topic.

And finally, a small remark as a warning tip - do not download uTorrent from obscure sources, download it only from the website of the manufacturing company utorrent.com
