Theater History

Perm Puppet Theater

Perm Puppet Theater was established in 1937. Initially, it was a very small troupe. The first performance of the theater was the fairy tale "At the command of the pike."

The troupe for 22 years led a nomadic lifestyle and did not have its own venue. The artists received their own building in 1959. This is an architectural monument designed by R.O. Karvovsky. It was built to contain prisoners. It was a transit prison, under the Soviet regime called the “correctional house”. There was a room with cells for prisoners, a bathhouse, a bakery, various workshops, a laundry room, a garden, workshops, a hospital, etc. Representatives of parties, revolutionaries, dispossessed, and enemies of the people were kept here.

In 1957-58, the room was rebuilt as a theater. The construction was attended by architects from Leningrad. Sergey Obraztsov and the staged part of his theater helped build and equip the stage with Perm puppeteers. Initially, the puppeteers were forced to share this room with the Youth Theater. But soon they remained his sole masters.

The first Permian performance in the new building was the play Devil's Mill.

In the 80s, the main director of the theater was I.V. Ignatiev. Thanks to him, the productions acquired a bright imaginative solution, became more professional and modern. His work has been repeatedly noted by critics. Today I.V. Ignatiev lives and works in St. Petersburg, is the head of the Tale Theater.

Today, two halls - Small and Large - have a Perm Puppet Theater. His poster offers performances for kids, schoolchildren, youth and adults.

From 1995 to 2013, the theater was led by Igor Nisonovich Ternavsky. During his repertoire, many new and very interesting performances appeared. Thanks to this, the theater audience expanded, and there were much more fans.

Since September 2014, the post of artistic director was taken by director Alexander Vitalievich Yanushkevich. For many years he has been the director of performances at the Minsk Puppet Theater. Alexander Vitalievich is a multiple nominee for the Golden Mask Prize and has more than once become the laureate of various festivals, including international ones.

"The Snow Queen"

perm puppet theater reviews

This season, the Perm Puppet Theater presented the public with several premiere performances. One of them is the fairy tale “The Snow Queen”. The premiere took place on December 19. The performance was directed by A. Yanushkevich.

This is a story about fidelity, friendship and sensitivity to others, about good and evil. That eternity is to save the soul. And in order to find the true meaning to this word, you need to be honest, sensitive, courageous, loving, like Gerda.

The performance is interesting not only for children, but also for adults. It consists of seven paintings. It successfully combines dolls of different sizes, a video sequence and a lively plan of actors dressed in outlandish, colorful costumes.

The performance was created in order to make the audience a little kinder and wiser.

Reviews

Perm Puppet Theater receives mostly positive reviews from its viewers. The public writes that the performances are interesting not only for children, but also for their parents. The theater gives pleasure not only to small, but also large to its audience. Many productions use modern technology and unusual solutions.

Actors play their roles wonderful. The audience really likes that often in the performances next to the dolls there is also a living plan.

Favorite productions of the audience - "The Snow Queen", "Pinocchio", "Overcoat" and others.

The theater has a large repertoire. There are productions in it for all ages and for every taste. And before the New Year, there are Christmas trees where Santa Claus and Snegurochka congratulate the kids, where they are presented with a good mood and gifts, and fairy-tale characters play interesting games with them.

But there are those viewers who write that the quality of some performances leaves much to be desired. Among the minuses, the fact that the building needs repair is also noted.

In general, the residents of the city are proud of their theater and recommend that everyone visit it. More than one generation of Permians has been brought up on his productions.
