Present Petrozavodsk is a city located in the northwestern part of the Russian Federation. It is the capital of the Republic of Karelia, as well as the largest city in the Prionezhsky region on the shores of Lake Onega. In this regard, there was a need to build an airport capable of meeting the transport needs of a growing city. Since 1939, the airport of Petrozavodsk-Besovets has become just such.
About airport
The airport of Petrozavodsk is both civilian and military - acts as a military base of the Air Force of the Russian Federation. This is evidenced by the level of the โjoint air baseโ assigned to it in 1995 for the Russian Ministry of Defense, as well as the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation.
The airport is located twelve kilometers from the capital of Karelia, near the village of Besovets, for which it received the name.
The main carrier of the Besovets airport is S7 Airlines, which operates regular flights to Moscow and St. Petersburg, as well as to other cities, countries with or without transfers. Flights to the resort cities of Russia are also operated. Flights from Besovets airport to Simferopol are carried out every day, except Wednesday and Saturday, with an approximate travel time of a little more than 17 hours, taking into account transfers.

In 2015, the airport underwent modernization, during which the landing strip area was increased by a quarter, more than five hundred plates for the aerodrome were replaced, drainage and treatment systems, power supply, lighting and communication networks were updated. In the near future, the airport management has planned the restoration of the second terminal for international flights to Finland, the city of Helsinki, as well as upgrading the airport category according to the international ICAO standard. The airport will receive modern international communication and navigation systems, additional platforms for the reception and parking of passenger aircraft. This will increase the passenger flow of the current civil airport.
Besovets Airport is capable of receiving such aircraft as Il-76T, Il-114, Tu-134, An-12, Sukhoi Superjet 100, aircraft of more lightweight classes, as well as helicopters of absolutely any type.
Services
Guests of Besovets airport can relax in a spacious waiting room, use the services of a VIP lounge, a buffet. There are places for buying tickets, a medical center, a room for mother and child, as well as a post office of Russia.
How to get to Besovets airport?
Finding a transport hub is its main advantage for Petrozavodsk. In fact, you can get to it by taxi or by personal transport, however, the proximity to the city, as well as to the village of Besovets, allows you to reach it in a matter of minutes along the federal highway E105 towards the city of Murmansk.
Also, the airport can be reached from Petrozavodsk by bus number 100 Petrozavodsk - Airport - Garrison Besovets, which operates daily with flights twice a day in both directions. The fare is 48 rubles, and the journey time is forty minutes.
The transport location in conjunction with the size of the airport allows us to define it as a cozy and comfortable aerocomplex that can easily meet the client's need for a flight to another city in Russia or in the near future to a foreign country.
