Som in size is the undisputed champion among the famous freshwater fish. For this reason alone, he is probably considered the most coveted trophy of the fisherman. And if you take into account that to catch him is an extremely difficult matter and only a real master can do, then such a trophy can be estimated not only as desired, but also very worthy. The story about the battle with the river giant, about its size and weight will be able to decorate the biography of any fisherman for many years, even if they caught only one catfish. Kwok is one of the most effective ways of catching catfish, and besides it is unique to this fishing. We will tell you how to make kvok with your own hands.
What it is
Kwok is a special device that gives a specific gurgling sound when it hits the water. It is not known what exactly this sound reminds of soma, but it goes to it, and the method is considered very effective. Kwok works only on catfish, and is not used on any other fishing trips. In appearance, this is a very simple device, but nevertheless requires certain knowledge and skills if you decide to make quotas with your own hands. Previously, they were made from sickle for stubble and cow horn. Now, of course, you can use a lot of different materials. The tool is also sold in fishing shops, but experienced “catfish” fishermen make quotas with their own hands, so to speak, for themselves. Most often duralumin and hardwood are used for its manufacture. A kwok consists of several parts: a hoof, a water cutter, and a handle.

The handle should be made over the arm and be comfortable. It is good when there is a "lanyard" on it, so as not to accidentally drown the quakes. The cutter is made as thin as possible so that it “cuts” the water and does not make noise, blocking the sound of cotton. Of course, a wooden cutter cannot be made very thin, it will break. But still, its thickness should not exceed six millimeters. A metal cutter, of course, can and should be made thinner. The strength of the cotton depends on the size of the “hoof”, which is a hemisphere. The larger its size, the deeper and more booming sound gives a quake. The “hoof” from the inside should be absolutely smooth and even, which is essential for obtaining clear sound. In addition, the angle at which the water cutter is mounted relative to the handle is very important in the quoke. This angle dramatically affects the sound and is chosen by each “somnik” independently, in accordance with its experience and preferences.
DIY kvok making
To make a wooden quack with your own hands, you will need a dried branch, for example, apple trees with a diameter of about 4 cm and ordinary carpentry tools. For an iron quack, you need a wooden or plastic block (for a pen), a metal plate (for a water cutter and a “hoof”), several screws and a locksmith tool kit. It’s easy to attach the handle to the water cutter. The method does not matter, so immediately proceed to mount the "hooves". The lower end of the water cutter must be grooved in the middle to get a two-toothed fork. In turn, in a pre-fabricated hoof (hemisphere), two holes are drilled and so that they correspond to the “plug” on the water cutter. Everything is connected in a single design, and the ends of the “plug” are riveted and polished so that the inside of the “hoof” remains perfectly smooth. The “hoof” is bent with a ball from a bearing or something similar, or it can be poured out of epoxy. You must be prepared for the fact that the first experience may be unsuccessful. To get the “right-sounding” quakes, you may need a lot of patience.
