Nowhere without the Internet. It is used in almost all areas of our lives. And this applies not only to entertainment. Even bank and other payments are made based on such technologies. That is why every person, even if completely far from knowledge of computers or mobile technologies, must clearly imagine how to connect to the Internet, using different methods and devices for this. And all skeptics immediately want to say that you should not underestimate such knowledge, because you still don’t know when and under what unforeseen circumstances they can come in handy.
How to connect to the Internet: general principles
Let's start by choosing the type of connection. For computers, a wired and wireless connection can be used, for mobile devices - only wireless. In this case, it is worth paying special attention to the moment that when using wireless Internet access, both computers and phones can act as an access point (work like the most ordinary router). Depending on what type of connection will be used in each case, the steps taken to create the connection and the options that will be set will vary.
But, if it is about how to connect to the Internet, and not create a connection, the problem is solved much easier. For example, you have a laptop or phone with a wireless Wi-Fi module and a configured connection through a router.
In this case, it is enough to enable the detection of available networks, select the necessary one, if necessary, enter a password for a secure connection and make a connection.
Wired Internet Connection
But the connection issues are much wider than the usual connection. Therefore, it makes sense to dwell briefly on how to connect to the Internet in terms of creating a certain type of connection. And let's start with wired connections, which are mostly used for stationary computers (laptops can also use this type of connection, but it’s much more practical for them to set up a wireless connection).
So, how to connect to the Internet using this technique? Initially, we assume that the cable is inserted into the network card, and all the necessary drivers are installed for it.
To gain access to the World Wide Web, you must first enter the “Control Panel”, call up the network and sharing control section, create a new connection and indicate that it is an Internet connection. After that, you just need to follow the instructions of the “Create Connection Wizard”. Upon completion, you will need to check some important settings, the parameters of which depend on the type of IP address used.
To do this, in the properties section of the created network connection, go to the IPv4 protocol options and look at the address selection method. For dynamic IPs, all parameters must be set to receive automatically, and with static addresses the values for each field will need to be entered independently (you can find them from the provider). Just in case, if the provider does not provide for the use of proxies, it is necessary to check that this option is disabled for local addresses.
Wireless connection
How to connect to the Internet through a stationary computer type, figured out. Now a few words about wireless technology. This type of connection, as already mentioned, is most often used for laptops and mobile devices that have built-in Wi-Fi modules. Here, the settings for the signal-receiving devices are even simpler.
Most of the settings are for routers. Again, in the case of dynamic IPs on the router, it is enough to set the appropriate type of address, and after that the parameters from the provider will be applied automatically.
If a static address is used, the options provided by the Internet provider will have to be entered manually. But the main attention should be paid to the choice of channel and type of connection, as well as the inclusion of the distribution of a wireless signal. Setting the access password and encryption method can be set in the connection properties on the security tab.
VPN usage
Private virtual networking technologies have several aspects. Firstly, through the Internet you can network computers located in different parts of the globe. Secondly, any such connection can be secured by encrypting information and using tunneling technology. Thirdly, in this way it is possible to achieve complete anonymity on the Internet (after changing the external IP address, you can remain unrecognized on the Web, hide traces of resource visits, etc.).
To configure when creating a new connection, you must select a connection to the workplace using the indication of your VPN connection, enter the Internet address of the VPN server at one of the stages and provide login protection by setting the login and password.
If we talk about how to connect to the Internet through a laptop, do not forget that you can take advantage of additional features. So, for browsers, you can install additional VPN-plugins (in Opera browser, such a client is available in a predefined form). Similarly, specialized applications such as SafeIP are installed for the entire system, which initially change the set external address, after which even programs that access resources blocked on the Internet get access to them.
How to connect to the Internet via phone or tablet?
As for mobile equipment, either a Wi-Fi wireless connection (with the possibility of an additional VPN installation) or a service provided by a mobile operator is usually used.
The first case was considered at the very beginning. Regarding VPNs, it is easiest to use similar mobile versions of stationary applications, since setting up VPNs using Android may seem complicated to some users (although such a connection is established by connecting to the appropriate server on the Internet, the address of which is provided by the provider or service provider).
But let's see how to connect to the Internet via phone, using a mobile operator as a provider. As a rule, when buying a SIM-card and its first activation, the operator immediately sends a special Push-message with the necessary parameters, which are automatically integrated into any system. If such a message did not arrive, you can request its re-sending.
To connect to the same Android devices, data transfer will be used, not Wi-Fi, that's all. But with this type of connection, depending on the services provided by the operator itself, additional charges may apply. It is also necessary to pay attention to this.
Instead of an afterword
As you can see, there should not be any special problems when creating any type of connection. Wireless technology seems preferable. This is not even discussed. If for some reason the created connection does not work, or there is no Internet access, you need to check the settings are correct, perhaps use other DNS addresses (for example, from Google), delete the connection and create it again, check the settings of the router, etc. However, if everything is done correctly, usually everything works immediately (even the system does not need to be rebooted).
