When Serena herself chose between Dan and Nate, she noticed that Humphrey can cry on the shoulder, and Archibald has beautiful shoulders, which can hardly be called his merit - he was born smart, he had everything - either from nature or from fortune.
Personal opinion
But Nate himself knew that he had everything; he was not in vain seeking to find himself, to renounce capital, not to go to college, where his father wanted to arrange him, not to be like all the elite "golden boys", but live your life. We give him a plus for the attempt, but the scriptwriters did not untwist this idea until the end - he remained a "class whore."
The end of the series raises a lot of questions about Nathaniel, after all, “Gossip Girl” is a melodrama, and in the finale everyone was “brought together”, but only Archibald was left alone with his controversially constructed career. And still handsome.
