Kitchen facade: how to make the right choice

When designing a future kitchen, many factors must be considered. Among them are the location of the bathroom, gas boiler, dining table, refrigerator, room sizes, etc. I would like, in addition to functionality and ergonomics, kitchen furniture to look elegant and stylish. In this regard, the kitchen facade plays a huge role. It includes the doors of shelves and cabinets, the outer panels of the cabinets and tables, that is, the entire visible part of the furniture.

Nowadays, various colors, types, textures and shapes make it possible to realize almost any creative idea. At the same time, the cost of manufacturing and the appearance of the kitchen largely depends on what material will be used for the manufacture of kitchen facades. This can be an aluminum or plastic profile, natural wood, MDF or ordinary chipboard. Which kitchen facade is best suited specifically for your kitchen - the question is not easy. What material is better to choose for its manufacture and what nuances should be taken into account - this will be discussed in our article.

Particleboard kitchen facade

Budget type. Particleboard is pressed sawdust bonded with resin. It is it that is most often used for the manufacture of household and office furniture: cabinets, tables, cabinets , shelves, etc. From it almost always make the case of kitchen cabinets. What is the advantage of a chipboard kitchen facade? First of all, it is worth noting its affordable cost and a large number of colors, including those that mimic a tree. An important advantage is the ability to "fit" furniture parts to size directly at the assembly site, which significantly increases the assembly time. Cons of this material: poor moisture tolerance, flat, exceptionally flat appearance (without texture and milling) and restriction on the installation of handles (their choice is limited only by invoices).

MDF facades

The most common type. MDF is also compressed sawdust, but, unlike chipboard, they are smaller and do not use resins to connect them, which increases their environmental friendliness. The kitchen facade made of this material can be covered with PVC film, special furniture enamel or natural veneer. It is much more diverse and stronger than the previous type and, moreover, is not afraid of moisture. Its structure is denser, and thanks to this, this material can be given a concave or slightly rounded shape at the ends, and with the help of milling to make a stylish pattern. The laminated MDF facades look very nice, the film of which โ€œplaysโ€ in the sunlight. There is only one drawback - a higher cost compared to chipboard. In addition, it is almost impossible to remodel such facades, and therefore all dimensions must be as accurate as possible.

Solid wood array

The most expensive type. For the manufacture of such an elite facade, valuable tree species are used: cherry, ash, alder, acacia, walnut, etc. The service life, durability, quality in comparison with chipboard and MDF are much higher, but the price is frankly โ€œbitingโ€, and not everyone can afford such a facade. In addition, this material is demanding to care for, afraid of mechanical damage and does not tolerate moisture and temperature changes (cracks may appear).

Selection Recommendations

When choosing the type of facades, first of all, you need to pay attention to operating conditions, unpretentious care, appearance and cost. If the budget is limited, but you want something original, you can make some facades from an aluminum profile and with an insert of frosted or transparent glass. In addition, if chipboard facades are selected, you can use different colors for the lower and upper cabinets, choose a thicker edge and order expensive accessories.
