Every year hundreds of new programs and applications appear. Tracking all of them is impossible. And part of them is absolutely useless. But not KeyNote. What kind of software is known to few. Moreover, disputes may arise between users of Windows and Mac. Why and what? We learn further.
The concept
Most likely, you could hear a couple of times about KeyNote. It’s not easy to guess what it is, because it practically doesn’t suggest any thoughts with its name.
We will look at two KeyNote programs. One works with the Windows operating system, the second can be run on apple devices.
Windows application
What is KeyNote for Windows? This is an old software that is designed to work with text information. It is easy to structure, display and store. The program is implemented using Delphi. Until now, it has been distributed through the Open Source and Mozilla Public License. Revision of the application 1.1.
It is very strange, but it’s definitely hard to say who developed the program. According to some reports, a Polish programmer worked on it.
History
Software was first released in 2001. The developer maintained its performance until 2005. Two years later, the Spanish programmer became involved in the program. He added several new options, and then changed the name to KeyNote NF.
It’s impossible to say that no one used the application for all the time. Still, they were engaged in and promoted. It got into authoritative publications a couple of times, and was also awarded by the popular PowerTools forum.
Work
KeyNote for Windows is a useful and simple program. Often it is called the “Notebook”. The interface is represented by a pair of tabs by which data is structured. All information is shown as a hierarchical tree structure. Text documents are presented as notes. They can be easily formatted.
The functions of the application abound:
- Upon request, it is easy to find the information you need. There is a global search on all content.
- There are customization of interface elements and software shortcut keys.
- You can assign an icon to each tab or note. There are enough graphic elements in the kit, but they can be installed additionally.

When the Polish programmer was replaced by Spanish, new features were introduced for KeyNote. What this program is, many have already known. Therefore, we were happy with the changes.
So, from the innovations we can distinguish:

- the appearance of a checkbox that hid or displayed part of the note;
- notification signals;
- change the mechanism of working with tables;
- adding new interface languages;
- the appearance of mirror copies, which became a continuation of dynamic notes.
Apple App
The browsing application on Windows creates notes and any operational information. But the program of the same name for "apple" devices creates and demonstrates presentations.
Apple KeyNote is less well-known because it can only work on one operating system - MacOS. In addition, even the owners of Apple gadgets do not often use it.
This may be due to the fact that the program is paid. It’s a pity to give 10 dollars to some for a tool that has a bunch of offline and online analogs.
Nevertheless, those who have downloaded this program themselves leave only positive reviews. It has a wide range of tools for working with presentations, supports popular formats. You can use KeyNote both on a macbook and on mobile devices.
Features Apple KeyNote
The program being reviewed, like its PowerPoint counterpart, is included in the software package. It became the branded "apple" software iWork. The component is needed to create and play presentations and can work in tandem with the Pages text editor and the Numbers table application.
Projects are easy to work on quickly. For this there is integration with iCloud. The cloud helps you create your project on the go.
The difference between the two applications
Many people compare KeyNote to PowerPoint. This is true because the tasks of both programs are identical. But if all other iWork components fade in front of Microsoft Office elements, then KeyNote, on the contrary, turned out to be more successful. It is this program that is increasingly becoming an assistant for corporate tasks.
KeyNote and PowerPoint undoubtedly have common features. If you have ever used one of the programs, then you can definitely understand the second one.
Of course, the "apple" version has an interface and an additional set of tools. She is more concise and modern. This is probably why it has become for many the best tool.
Interface
Most likely, if you notice a laconic design and an understandable toolbar, you will immediately realize that this is KeyNote, not PowerPoint. On the main screen of the program there are immediately all the available options: opening a project, editing or deleting it.
To begin work on the presentation, you need to click on the “+”. From the list of options, select "Create."
In the upper corner of the screen the basic tools for work are offered. The formatting brush changes the properties of text and other objects, works on the font style, size, color, etc.
The insert button can add different elements to the slide. You can supplement the presentation with anything: screenshots, images from the camera or gallery, graphics and other objects.
Tools play a service role. They help customize slide transitions, and also share presentations. You can immediately add a comment to the slide for other project participants. The play button allows you to view your work.
Of course, these are not all the available program features. But to describe them all does not make sense, since you just met them already in other similar applications for creating presentations.
Book
KeyNote turned out to be a universal concept. Hiding under it is both a Windows program and an application from Apple. Some people come across Keynote Upper-intermediate, but don’t know what it is. It so happened that this is a training book that has nothing to do with the two programs under consideration.
