The DIR 615 router is a production model of the Dlink company, which has established itself well in the computer equipment market. The router steadily holds the network, has Wi-Fi connectivity. It allows you to protect all home computers, while ensuring transparent communication between them. But not everyone can correctly configure everything that is needed right away, so let's check how simple it is.
Equipment
When buying such a device, you need to make sure that everything we need for the initial work is already in the package. It’s not very pleasant, having bought a router, bring it home and understand that you now need to go for the cable, because the first time you turn on the D Link DIR 615, the configuration is carried out only via the network cable. A special case of Wi-Fi setup for the first time is not suitable - the network is disconnected.
But the complete set has everything that we need for the first time: a wire for connecting to a computer, a pair of antennas, a power supply for the network, the device itself and a program disk. Also, a whole bunch of papers, guarantees and most importantly - instructions in Russian. There is also a special stand: the router can be placed on the edge so that it takes up less space on the table.
We connect to the computer
The connection is very simple. First, we fasten the antennas, they have the most common thread, then we pull out the Internet cable from the computer and plug it into the wan socket on the D Link DIR 615. The first connection should be configured via cable. A sticker is usually located next to the wan socket, unhook it, followed by 4 identical ports. The attached cable connects one of the ports to the computer. Which port of four to choose - decide for yourself, now they are equivalent. On the computer we stick the cable into the slot where the Internet used to be. We connect the power supply to the power connector . Everything we need for the initial setup is ready. We stick the plug into the outlet and wait until the router boots up. At the same time, turn on the computer, if you have not done this before.
Start setting
So, we connected the cables, turned on the computer, the router, but now there is no Internet - however, for the first time we do not need it. You will need instructions for the D Link DIR 615. The settings in the instructions are quite detailed, so we will use it.
We turn the pages to the Russian language (it is usually the second in the brochure) and begin to customize. First you need to tell the router how to set up the Internet. To do this, you need the settings issued by the provider when connecting. However, if you have an Internet connection through adsl-modem, the settings will be greatly simplified. Now turn on the browser and drive the following numbers into the address bar: 192.168.0.1. The router receives this address at the factory, perhaps we will change it later.
In the highlighted login window we drive in the necessary data. They are in the instructions, but this router has the usual ones: admin in both fields. Press "Enter" to confirm and get to the main screen of DIR 615. The setting of all parameters is displayed here. You can configure it in semi-automatic mode using the buttons on the left, but it’s more correct to check and make all the settings yourself. Click "Advanced Settings" in the lower right corner and go to the step-by-step setup. Usually the language is picked up correctly. If not Russian is opened, you can fix it using the button at the rightmost.
Internet setup
Immediately make a reservation that if the Internet cable is connected to the modem, and not to DIR 615, the setup is greatly simplified. The difference will be if the Internet goes through a modem, then in the router you can choose a static or dynamic IP, and the rest will be picked up by itself. If there is no modem, we will configure access to the network in DIR 615 itself. Internet settings are opened via the Wan link in the Network section in a new window. Follow the link and select the type of connection. Most providers use PPPoE. Select the type of connection in the upper field. Then just below the port and name (this is more likely needed for you). In order for your provider to recognize the router and allow it to go online, sometimes you need to replace the MAC. We do this just below in the “Ethernet” section. If you connected the router to the same network through which you previously went to the network, click the "clone MAC" button. In the figure below it is not signed, in this firmware version it is located to the right of the MTU -1492 field
In the "PPP" section, enter the username, password and set the MTU value to 1492. This data is provided by the provider when connecting, and if the MTU value is higher than the specified value, there may be network problems. The remaining parameters are set as in the picture below.
Scroll further, in the “Miscellaneous” block put two checkmarks: NAT is required, it is also advisable to enable “Firewall” - additional protection when working on the network. This is the same firewall or firewall, but built into the router. In the picture below they are included.
We save all the settings by clicking on “Apply”. The main part is completed. In a new browser tab, you can open, for example, the Yandex search engine.
Wi-Fi setup
If we have a laptop or smartphone, they will be able to access the Internet through a router too. To do this, return to the main settings window of DIR 615. Configuring wifi is done in the block, which is called that. Click on "General Settings" and in the window that opens, select "Enable".
Having saved the “Change” changes, we will return to the main window. Now in the same block, go to the link "Basic Settings". Here you need to set the network name (your smartphone will see it when searching for a network). Again, click "Change."
Actually, that's all, if you live in a private house, smart will catch not only next to the router. If you are in an apartment and do not want your neighbors to use your connection, you need to protect it with a password. From the main window, go to the link "Security Settings". Set the settings as shown in the picture below. Enter your password. Click "Change."
Now those who wish to connect to your network must specify a password. You also have to indicate it, so you need to save the password.
That, in fact, is all that is necessary for the normal operation of DIR 615, wifi setup is complete, now on a laptop / smartphone you need to try to find a new network and connect to it.

In conclusion, we will address the issue of resetting the DIR 615. You may not need it, but it is worth considering. The reset button is located on the back of the router in the form of a small hole in the circle labeled "reset", next to the power connection socket. When the router is turned on with a paper clip or pin, press it (it is in this hole) and hold for a minute. After the release, the router will restart, after which you can reconfigure the Internet, wi-fi and other parameters.
