Avar theaters are a very rare occurrence. So much so that all over the world there is only one. This is the music and drama theater of the city of Makhachkala. His repertoire includes classics, plays by contemporary authors and works of national playwrights.
About the theater
Avar theaters, as mentioned above, are found in the world only in a single copy. Such a team is only in Makhachkala.
The Avar Musical Drama Theater opened in 1935. It happened in the village of Khunzakh. In 1943, the troupe was transferred to the city of Buinaksk. Since 1951, the theater bears the name of Gamzat Tsadasa (Dagestan poet). In 1961, the specifics of the work of the team changed. The theater became musical and dramatic. 1968 the troupe was transferred to the city of Makhachkala.
In 2009, H. A. Abdulgapurov was appointed to the post of artistic director of the theater. Director since 2013 is M.M. Magomedrasulov.
The troupe employs actors of different generations. The repertoire includes productions for both adults and children.
The theater goes on tour in various cities of Russia.
Recently, the team solemnly celebrated its 80th anniversary. The celebration program was varied. It was attended not only by theater artists, but also by guests from other areas of Dagestan. The events took place in the form of a musical theatrical performance. Its name is "At the hearth of our ancestors."
Today, the theater aims to keep up to date, but at the same time honor the best traditions of stage art. The team has many new ideas and plans. He will continue to delight his viewer with interesting projects.

Season premiere
On April 18, 2016, the Avar theater presented a new performance. This is a play by the Dagestan playwright Shapi Kaziev. The name of the production is “Ancestor”.
This is a comedy with a lot of different colorful characters. The play includes dialogs, fights, and dances of the goddesses of Ancient Greece.
The work reflects our life, although it is a complete fiction. But people like his characters are found in reality.
