Two ways to make page breaks in Word

In the well-known Word program, after the text reaches the end of one page, the program visualizes the page break so that the user can clearly see where the sheet ends and where the new one begins. Such a gap is automatic. You can’t delete it in any way, since this is simply not necessary. However, a page break can be created manually.

This article will discuss how to manually break a page in Word. Two fairly easy methods will be described, so as you read through the article, you will learn how to perform these steps.

Why break a page?

Before you talk about how to make a page break in Word, you should first explain the essence of this action. It was said above that the gap indicates the places where a new sheet begins - this is very convenient when printing.

In addition to such benefits, a break can also help when working in the program itself. Having made it, you can simply navigate in various blocks of text. Thus, navigation through the document will be simplified significantly.

Of course, instead of a manual break, you can use automatic. But for this you will have to hold down the ENTER key and hold it until automatic break is completed. But this method is good only if it is necessary to distribute blocks of text on several sheets, but if there are a lot of such sheets, then this method becomes simply useless due to the high time costs.

It's also worth mentioning that manual breaks help you quickly jump to a new page that is completely blank.

Having finished with the explanations, we now turn to the essence, to the question of how to make a page break in Word.

Making a manual page break

Two basic methods will now be given on how to make a page break manually in Word. We advise you to read the article to the end in order to determine for yourself which method is more suitable for you. It is worthwhile to clarify in advance that in a program such as Word Pad, it is impossible to break the page, due to the lack of the option itself.

The first way: in the "Insert" tab

To break a page in the Word program, you need to do a number of simple manipulations. As you can see from the subtitle, first of all, go to the "Insert" tab. But the main thing - before carrying out all operations, do not forget to set the mouse cursor in the right place in the document, where it will be necessary to make that gap.

In the "Insert" tab, on the top toolbar, you need to turn your attention to the "Pages" area. It is located in the very left part. There you need to click on the "Page break". After the manipulations, you will see that the part of the text that was below the cursor has moved to a separate sheet, leaving an empty space behind you - you have made a page break.

But it is worth noting that if the Word program window is not expanded to the full screen, the "Pages" area may not display the "Page break" item in it. In this case, first click on the name of the "Pages" area and select the item from the drop-down menu.

How to make a gap between pages in Word

This was the first way, as in Word, to make a gap between pages. But as mentioned above, there are only two of them, so we immediately proceed to the next.

The second way: in the tab "Layout"

Now the second method will be discussed, how to make a page break. Unfortunately, in the 7th year’s Word, there is no Layout tab. Therefore, the instruction will be slightly different. The difference is only in the name, in 2007 "Word" this tab is called "Page Layout". Therefore, if you work in this version of the program, then perform all the actions in it.

So, as you might have guessed, the first thing to do is go to the "Layout" tab. But it is worth making a remark again: before all actions, do not forget to place the cursor in the place where you need to make a break, otherwise all manipulations will be wasted.

In the presented tab, click on the "Breaks" item. This item is located in the "Page Settings" area, which, as in the previous method, is located in the very left part of the toolbar.

As soon as you click on the "Breaks" item, a drop-down menu will open in front of you, in which you need to click on "Page". After that, as last time, the part of the text that was below the cursor will move to a new sheet.
