drama theater tomsk

Drama Theater (Tomsk) opened in 1850. A special building was built for him. It was wooden. The funds were donated by the mayor, the merchant of the first guild N.E. Filimonov. Part of the materiel was collected by subscription. The building stood for 32 years, then fell into disrepair and was sold for firewood. In the 80s of the 19th century, Governor I.I. Krasovsky decided to build a new decent building for the theater. The merchant E. Korolev supported his idea. The building was designed by architect P. Naranovich. The new theater opened its doors in 1885. The first performances were The Zateynitsa and The Guilty Without Guilt. The auditorium of the new theater accommodated up to a thousand spectators. The repertoire at that time was exclusively a classic. During the revolution, the theater was used for rallies, and was soon burned. During the Second World War, artists were evacuated from the city. After the war, the former front-line theater named after Chkalov, as well as artists from Narymsk, joined the troupe of the Tomsk Drama. In the 50-60s. plays on the Siberian theme appeared in the repertoire. The building in which the theater "lives" now was built in 1978. At the Tomsk Drama there is a museum where there are many interesting exhibits, documents, tours are regularly held.
