Tashkent Airports: A Brief Overview

The capital of Uzbekistan, Tashkent, is located in a successful, one might say, strategic location. As far back as the Middle Ages, the Great Silk Road passed through this city , and now airways leading to Europe, Asian countries, and the CIS republics cross in the sky above it. Tashkent airports can be called the "Gateway of the East", because they are convenient sites for various transit routes. In this article, we briefly describe the hubs of the capital of Uzbekistan. There are several of them. They carry uncomplicated names: Southern, Eastern and Sergeli.

International hub

Meets foreign travelers arriving in Tashkent, Yuzhny Airport. This hub has an ICAO certificate (second category). Many airlines in the world choose South as a platform for flights, and the local air carrier Uzbekistan Airways considers it the main hub airport. The hub was built in the distant seventies, but since then it has been repeatedly modernized according to international standards. Each year, the hub receives more than two million passengers. All types of ships of any tonnage are able to board its lanes. Yuzhny has three terminals: international, transit, and serving local flights (Toshkent-3). Thus, having arrived here, you can go to the ancient cities of Uzbekistan - to Samarkand, Khiva, Bukhara. Passengers board the galleries of the hub via telescopic ramps from the board. What is especially nice, domestic flights adjust to international ones. Passengers should not worry that they will not be able to catch their plane to the regional center of the republic.

Services of the international hub

It is unlikely that all Tashkent airports are equipped like the South. The last reconstruction in the main terminal was carried out in 2001. Now there are all the services needed for a hub of this level. Passengers can relax in the lounge. There are business and VIP lounges in the right wing of the building. There are duty-free shops, currency exchange offices, cafeterias, bars and restaurants, playgrounds. For passengers departing on early flights, the hotel operates. On the round-the-clock parking you can take the car for long-term storage. In the main lobby of the arrivals hall you will see many travel agencies. You can immediately get a ticket to the rest houses, boarding houses and sanatoriums of Uzbekistan or book an excursion to the sights of the republic.

Where is the international airport

Tashkent has long included the South in the city limits. Therefore, there is no need for special shuttles. You can get to the main airport of the country both by regular buses and minibuses. Unfortunately, the metro line has not yet reached Yuzhny. The nearest subway stations are Oybek and Halklar Dustligi. Most minibuses and buses go to housing estates or to various metro stops. To get to the Caravan of the Bazar, you need to select bus number 94. In the Sergeli massif, number forty and a minibus number 89. At the arrival hall, taxi drivers are on duty around the clock. Payment is negotiable. In fact, transportation by such transport in Tashkent is cheap, but they can ask an overpriced one from a foreigner.

South reconstruction plans

There are regular flights from this airport to major megacities of the world. From here you can get to New York, Kiev, Moscow, St. Petersburg, other cities of far and near abroad. The capacity of the main terminal is more than a thousand passengers per hour. Uzbekistan Airlines considers this airport to be its own β€œnest". In conclusion, I must say that the leadership of the hub cherishes big plans. Now the reconstruction of terminals, strips, equipment is being carried out in stages. Deficiencies are eliminated (such as, for example, insufficient number of passport control windows, because of which there are queues). It is planned that an international hub will decorate Tashkent. The airport, whose photo looks impressive already, should soon turn into a platform for transcontinental ships.

Sergeli

What about other airports in Tashkent? Sergeli is located in the suburbs of the capital of Uzbekistan. This is the oldest airport in Tashkent. It was founded in the fifties of the last century. Previously, Po-2 and Yak-18 landed here. But with the construction of Southern Sergeli did not become abandoned. In 2010, there was a reconstruction of the bands. The airport operates exclusively for local air travel. Also, Mi-8 technical helicopters and An-2 aircraft, which are owned by Selkhozaviaraboty, are based here. The hub is used as a training base for pilots of Uzbekistan Havo Yullari.

Oriental

This Tashkent city airport is a joint base for civil, military and experimental aircraft. He also accepts international flights - there is customs and border control. Since two thousand and seven, it has been owned by Uzbekistan Havo Yullari Airlines. This hub is capable of receiving only light aircraft, up to the An-22, An-124 and Il-76, as well as helicopters. There are landing and cargo sides. Military unit 23229 is based in Vostochny. Therefore, the launch of military aircraft can often be observed. The flight testing station of the TAPOiCh GAO operates in the hub, which carries out test flights of the Il-114-100. If we talk about the airports of Tashkent, it was from the East that Soviet soldiers were transferred to the war in Afghanistan. This hub is located in Tashkent region, in the Kibray district.
