In 1994 in Lipetsk reorganized the medical labor dispensary (LTP). Clients of this institution were malicious drunks who were subjected to forced treatment and labor re-education. As a result of the reorganization work, correctional colony No. 6, known as IK-6, appeared.

A bit of history
In January 1971, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the USSR issued decree No. 0197 on the reorganization of the medical and labor dispensary for drunkards in Lipetsk. The basis for the new strict-regime IR was the residential zone of colony No. 2. The former prisoners were transferred to newly erected buildings located 300 meters from the IR. Construction work was carried out long before the first batch of prisoners arrived. For this purpose, means of the Ministry of Internal Affairs were used. In addition, the ministries of ferrous metallurgy and the electrical industry of the Soviet Union were engaged in financing.
In order to remake the LTP into an IR, it was necessary to equip the entire perimeter, checkpoints, detachments for convicts and premises intended for security guards for strict-regime institutions. By 1994, the task assigned to the State Administration for the Execution of Sentences was completed. In December of this year, the first batch of inmates in the amount of 30 people arrived in the penal colony. In January of next year, the number of prisoners was already 808 people. In 2011, the Ministry of Justice of Russia in order No. 149 specified a limit of 1,650 prisoners. This also includes a colony settlement (100 people) and a regional hospital with a capacity of 130 beds.
Living conditions
Judging by the reviews of eyewitnesses, in the IR "guests" organized a good leisure. On the territory there is a sports ground, a billiard room. Prisoners have the opportunity to exercise in the gym. Some prefer table tennis, chess and checkers. In the colony there is a club in which both the convicts involved in amateur performances and well-known Russian artists perform. The temple of the Smolensk Icon of the Mother of God, built by prisoners, operates in the IR.
About training
According to experts, many prisoners did not graduate from school. They can correct this gap in the colony, having received secondary and vocational education. In 1995, evening school No. 1 appeared on the territory of the colony. Classes are held in absentia from Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Upon graduation, the prisoner receives a certificate. After this document is released, a person can enter any university.
Vocational training is carried out in school number 2. They train on electricians, shoe masters, car mechanics, masons, joiners, welders, cooks and other working specialties.
The process lasts from six months to 10 months. At the end, the student receives the appropriate qualification level. Judging by the reviews, the colony has a fairly developed domestic production, mainly of foundation blocks.
