By default, any document in Word has certain page options, background, and indentation. However, sometimes we may need to change these parameters for work or study. In this article, we will look at how to make page layout in Word for versions 2003, 2007, and 2010.
Basic layout features
For almost any version of Word, page layout includes: themes, page settings, its background and paragraphs. The layout of pages in Word 2007 and 2010 is very simple, since all parameters are in one place, while Word 2003 will have to dig in order to find the right item.
Topics
In all versions of "Word" there is an item "Themes". In Word 2007 and 2010, it is presented in the Page Layout tab in the left corner. When you click on the "Themes" button, you can select one of the topics presented. In addition, the āColorsā, āFontsā and āEffectsā items are located nearby, which allow you to manually adjust the theme for the document.
In 2003 Word, the Subject item is located in the Format menu. When you click on this menu item, the āThemeā window appears, in which you can select the desired theme, the content of the topics is different from subsequent versions of the text editor. In addition, there is no possibility to change colors, fonts and add effects.
Page settings
The main functions of page layout are the items that determine the page settings. These include: fields, orientation, size, columns, gaps, line numbers, and hyphenation. In Word 2007 and 2010, these parameters are in one place, also in the Page Layout tab.
Consider how to work in the Word 2003 with these parameters, and where to look for them. For example, the main page parameters (margins, orientation, size, columns) can be found in the āFileā tab, if you click on the āPage Settingsā item.
When you click on this item, the āPage Settingsā window appears, in the first tab (āFieldsā) of which you can select the fields and orientation. You can apply your changes to the entire document or to the end of the document.
Size can be changed in the same window. Just need to open the "Paper Size" tab.
āColumnsā are in the āFormatā tab. There you can configure them.
The āgapā is located in the āInsertā tab. This item allows you to insert page breaks in a document.
āHyphenationā can be found by opening the āServiceā tab. Next, in the "Language" you need to select the menu "hyphenation".
It is also worth noting that in Word 2003 there is no way to set line numbers. Let us consider in more detail how to work in Word with some of these points.
Fields
In the "Word" 2007 and 2010 in the "Fields" you can select one of the fields presented, these include: ordinary, narrow, medium, wide, mirror and user. Custom is the last field that you manually configure. This can be done by clicking in the "Field" on the line "Custom Fields".
In the window that appears, you can select the top, bottom, left and right margins, as well as the binding and its position. After the changes are made, click āOKā, these settings will be applied to the document and will be reflected in the āCustomā item. In the Word 2003, as already mentioned, the fields can be configured in the Page Settings menu of the File tab.

To do this, in the āWordā 2003, you need to go to the āPage Settingsā item in the āFileā tab and select āLandscapeā in the window that appears. In Word 2007 and 2010, you can open the same window by going to the Page Layout tab, then selecting the Fields item and the Custom Fields line. However, there is no need for such long actions, since you can simply click on the āOrientationā item and select āLandscapeā.
