Rome is one of the most interesting cities in Italy. He is incredibly beautiful and rich in history. There are many attractions here, among them the main airport of Fiumicino named after Leonardo da Vinci. It is about him that we will tell in this article, as well as how to get from the airport to Rome. The information will be useful to everyone who gathered in Italy for the first time.
Rome main airport
Fiumicino Leonardo da Vinci is the key in Italy. It is located southwest of Rome, within 30 km. It is named after the great artist of the Renaissance, as they say in Italy - the quattrocento Leonardo da Vinci. It has been operating since 1961 as a new air port of the city, since the already existing Ciampino airport could not cope with the capacity of the flight flow. Ciampino currently serves low-cost airlines.
Leonardo da Vinci Rome Airport has 4 terminals.
- Terminal 1 - serves flights to Schengen states and domestic flights.
- Terminal 2 - like Ciampino, is used by low-cost companies.
- Terminal 3 is the largest terminal, serving long-haul long-haul flights that can overcome more than 6000 km.
- Terminal 4 - Serves flights to destinations in the United States of America, Asia and Israel.
Service
As with all advanced airports, Rome Fiumicino Airport has a large selection of bars, restaurants and food courts. If you have the time, you can go shopping and go for a walk in the souvenir shops. There are bank branches, currency exchange points and pharmacies. Nearby is a Catholic chapel and a prayer room, including several faiths. Several hotels of different levels are located nearby, such as Hilton Garden Inn Rome Airport 4 *, Hilton Rome Airport 4 *, Welcome Airport Hotel 2 *, Hotel Corallo 3 *.
How to get to the city?
In this part of the article we will tell you about the most popular ways. There are several of them, and almost all of them are budget.
Express "Leonardo"
The main connections with the center of the capital of Italy are the motorway and railway tracks along which the Leonardo high-speed train runs. It is not difficult to find a station, you need to follow the yellow signs. They will lead you to the express train.
It leaves from terminal 3. In the same terminal you will receive your luggage, and after receipt you can immediately proceed to the railway or bus stations. When choosing a train, you should be prepared for the fact that you will not arrive in the very center of Rome. Express follows non-stop. Travel time is only half an hour.
The train consists of 5 modern cars equipped with air conditioning and comfortable lounges. Tickets cost around 15 euros.
Suburban train
Even to the airport of da Vinci in Rome and from it you can get on a commuter train that makes stops, which makes it possible to save. The cost is about 8 euros.
When leaving the arrivals hall you should turn right, walk 100 meters on the yellow signs to the express train or left to get to the bus ticket offices, there are other transfer options, but more on that later.
What is important to know about this type of transfer if you bought a ticket for the Leonardo Express? He will bring you to Termini Station. But if you need to get to the stations of Trastevere, Ostiense (metro line B), Tuscolana (metro line A), Tiburtina (metro line A), then you need to take the regional train Treno Regionale. In case of inconvenience, if you feel that it is difficult to figure it out on your own, you just need to tell the ticket office which station is preferable for you. Be careful when passing to the desired train, at the beginning of each there is a sign indicating the name and route. Express "Leonardo" usually leaves the second way.
Bus
A bus can take you to Termini Central Station. In order to find the bus, you need to turn left, go to the escalator, then 5-10 minutes on foot, following the signs. After a while, you will see the ticket office and ticket machines. Often there are queues, so itβs easier to buy a ticket yourself. Buses run every half hour, as does the Leonardo Express, but travel time will take about sixty minutes, depending on traffic. In principle, if you have time, but there is no budget, the bus is what suits you.
We advise you to have cash and a card with you, if suddenly the ticket office or machine will not work so that you can leave the airport.
Bus schedule
We advise you to check the bus schedule in advance on the official websites of the carriers. There you can buy tickets. However, you need to be sure that there will be no delays. It depends on the accuracy of arrival and departure to Rome airport, passport control and baggage claim, which sometimes fails. Important: if you fly by night flight, you should not rely on a bus, as they go until 23:00. There are night flights, but you should approach this responsibly, make sure in advance that the bus schedule is on the websites of passenger companies.
Taxi
The next type of transfer is a taxi. The cost varies from forty-eight to seventy euros. A preliminary transfer can be ordered in advance by phone or via the Internet - you will be met by a person with a sign, and you will travel individually by car to the desired location. Please note that a taxi driver may ask for an additional fee for the number of suitcases. The first one is included in the price, while for others you have to pay about 1 euro.
Car rent
If you want to freely get to Rome and not depend on anyone, you should rent a car. It is more rational to book a car in advance, so that upon arrival the paperwork and receipt of the car itself will take you no more than thirty minutes. The cost is about thirty-five to fifty euros per day.
