How to make animation in Photoshop: step by step instructions

On GIF images, there is movement - snow falls, dew sparkles, waves roll onto the shore. They look very original, and many want to decorate their avatars with such gifs or to give such a card to friends. Essentially speaking, gifs are just frames that alternate in a certain order. Let's look at an example.

How to make a photo animation

First, you should choose photos from which the animation will actually be made. They should be uploaded to Photoshop, and then they need to be moved to one layer. You need to take the "Move" tool and transfer one photo to another. Thus, the layer is unlocked. All pictures will be placed on new layers automatically. To do this, click on the "lock".

After the selected pictures are added, you need to find the Animation tool, and for this go to the menu item under the name Window, the animation is also located there. Most likely, it is included.

Next, hold down the Ctrl key, click on the layers with the mouse and find the context menu in the animation from the bottom right.

You need to click on it, it will say "Create frames from layers." All layers that are visible and selected will become frames. Now you know how to make an animation of a photo in Photoshop.

An example of animation from a photo

Here is an animation of pictures of cute fluffy squirrels, for example. Four frames with little animals were chosen - that means 4 layers will be obtained.

Animation is already on. Look at the picture below for how to do this.

And here you can see where the "Create frames from layers" is located. Here's how to make a photo animation in Photoshop with 4 pictures. If desired, you can add more.

Animation Setup

But that’s not all, you need to configure them. Under the objects, the time is indicated, as well as small arrows, look how it looks in the picture below.

Preservation

It remains only to save. And for this you need to click “File” and save “For Web and Devices”. Be careful to ensure that there is a GIF and repeat settings "Constantly." See if the animation suits you. If everything is normal, then save as shown in the image below.

Simple animation

You need a layer that will be the background. It can be transparent or somehow decorated - depending on the picture. Next, an object is drawn on a new transparent layer. Then the layer can be copied, changing the position of the object each time. Or the background moves.

Initially, you need to think through the concept of drawing. Let's say this is a little man who is walking along a forest path. Or a butterfly flying from flower to flower.

Simple animation example

And now we’ll show an example of how to make a simple animation in Photoshop. Create a layer, which is divided into two parts: the lower part is green, that is, grass, the upper one is blue, that is, sky. And decorate a little with a brush. The layer has parameters 200 to 200, and the brush has 15 pixels.

Next, you need a new layer and with a brush draw a ladybug. You need to create a copy of this layer. Using the Move tool, slightly change the state of the ladybug so that it moves. For convenience, you can make several copies at once, and then gradually move the insect so that it runs on the grass. How it looks in practice can be seen in the picture.

Create animation

Next, you need to make an animation, the background should always be open. Select the remaining layers by holding down the Ctrl key and clicking on them with the mouse. You already know how to make an animation in Photoshop, and now you can watch the ladybug running on the grass on the screen.

Pencil Drawing Animation

First you need the actual pencil drawing itself. It can be downloaded on the Internet, asked to draw a friend or do it yourself. For example, take a pencil drawing of the Eiffel Tower.

So, load the selected image into Photoshop. Next, you need the Archive Brush tool, which recreates the actions taken last time. But since there is no action (you haven’t done anything yet, just opened the drawing), therefore, the story needs to be made artificial. To do this, click on the "Image" menu, select "Correction" there, find "Brightness and Contrast" and move the slider somewhere. No matter where, the main thing is that there is a story.

Then you need to find the “Archive brush” itself in the toolbar. Go into history, find there the action you have taken. Click the Archive Brush next to it, as seen in the image below.

Canvas for painting

The brush will remember what you are doing, and then it will be able to reproduce all this on another layer. A new layer will be required, it should be filled with white. In principle, it can be made in any other shade.

You can experiment, make, for example, green or blue color or create some beautiful texture. White is best of course, because it will be better seen. Do not forget that you need to turn off the visibility of this layer, and then create another one, this time transparent. On it you will draw.

It is better to create several layers at once, on which you will draw. There were nine layers in the example, but you can make it as you wish. There can be 3, and 15, and even 50. On each layer, you draw some specific part until you finish the whole drawing.

To make it easier, you can spy on the background.

pencil drawing

So, you drew, now we got a lot of layers. How to make animation in Photoshop? All layers of the “eyes” should be closed, except for the first two. Thus, you will get the first frame. Do a few.

Important! In this case, the second frame corresponds to layer number 2. The third, respectively, to layer number 3. Pay attention to the following: “eyes” must constantly stand on the background and white layer.

Look at the photo below. Frame number two is visible on it: the background layer is open, 1 and 2.

Pencil Drawing-1

This is followed by the third layer, while the previous two are also open.

Pencil Drawing-2

We do this: add the next part of the image in ascending order until we open the visibility to all layers. After which the picture is ready, and it will be possible to set the time of the show.

Pencil Drawing-3

On the first frame, put 1 second, and on the last 5. You can also adjust the display time at your discretion. Now you know how to animate the drawing process in Photoshop.

The snow is spinning

You must admit that it looks very cool and beautiful when white and fluffy snow falls on the animation. It is especially cool if the picture is appropriate, for example, an ice rink or a park in winter. But how can you create something like this yourself? How to make snow animation in Photoshop?

It seems to many that this process is quite difficult, but in fact it is quite simple. Firstly, you need the picture itself, which will serve as the background. It is advisable to choose something appropriate to the topic - for example, a Christmas tree. Secondly, you need a brush called Snowflakes. It can be found and downloaded on the Internet.

In addition to the background, we need three more layers. Call them something. For example, the first to call "work" and fill it with yellow. But this is not important, you can fill absolutely anyone, since it does not affect anything. It serves to create visibility. The remaining two layers can be called "snow1" and "snow2". They must be transparent. These layers are intended for drawing snowfall. You can make several of them.

Next, turn off until the layer called "snow 2". On the “snow 1” layer, draw a whole bunch of snowflakes. Naturally, snowflakes should be white. However, you can make a fantastic snowfall of snowflakes of any color, such as gold.

Turn off the "eye" (visibility) at the layer "snow 1" and turn on the "snow 2". It also needs to draw a whole bunch of snowflakes. If you have more layers, then do the same with them, or you can make copies. Now take the "Move" tool and drag the layer up - it should not be visible at all. It is located upstairs.

Turn on “snow 1”, turn off the “work” layer. And you get an animation frame. Next, select “snow 1” and lower it down, select “snow 2” and move it to “snow 1”. It is possible that they intersect. It turns out the second frame.

Here are the copies of the layers as shown.

Snow in Photoshop

Well, then intermediate frames are made, the time of display is set. The example set 0, 2 seconds. Thus, the figure began to snow. You can experiment. Try it and you will succeed.
