Many users, when using applications for voice or video chat online, sometimes want to change their voice in order to remain an unrecognized interlocutor or simply turn the conversation into a joke. To do this, you can use programs for the so-called voice morphing, one of which is the popular utility MorphVOX Pro. How to use this application will be shown later. As a companion program, you can use Skype or any other voice client.
What is the MorphVOX Pro program for?
First, a few words about why this utility is needed and how it works. Actually, the very concept of morphing, from which the name of the application comes from, in the simplest interpretation means "voice change in real time."
For this, the program has several ready-made templates, a list of which, if desired, can be significantly expanded. In addition, you can fine-tune your modified voice with the addition of various effects or sounds that are played in the background (this is called Background). Further, a detailed instruction is offered for working with the application (MorphVOX Pro at the initial stage needs to be configured in order to activate its sound components). There are not so many parameters, but close attention should be paid to each section for the utility to work as it should.
How to use MorphVOX Pro: presets
So, we assume that the application is installed (usually there are no problems with this). The initial setup for Skype or any other similar application is not so difficult.
How to use the program MorphVOX Pro? There is nothing easier. We launch the utility and click on the section of the same name located in the upper panel, after which we select the Preferences menu. On the left in the menu, select the parameters of the device used (Device Settings), and then use the microphone volume setting button (Microphone Volume).
Next, redirection is made to the standard Windows sound settings, where from the list on the recording tab you need to select a device called Screaming Bee Audio, then through PCM turn on this microphone and set its use as the default communication tool. For the main microphone (e.g. Realtek High Definition Audio), only the default usage setting is set.
Basic setup is complete. Now let's see how to use MorphVOX Pro on Skype. We start Skype, use the call menu and select the sound setting, and then in the right part of the main window select the Screaming Bee Audio microphone from the drop-down list. Now, during a conversation, the interlocutor will not hear your original voice, but changed based on one of the selected templates.
Morphing and Listening Sector
Speaking about how to use MorphVOX Pro, you should immediately understand the interface. There are few options. Pay attention to the first sector of voice selection on the left. Only two main buttons are available here - Morph and Listen.
In the default settings, they will glow green, which corresponds to listening only to a modified voice. Pressing the first button will cause you to hear your voice in the headphones unchanged, the second - to ensure that the clear voice in the headphones is turned off.
Voice Sector
In the matter of how to use MorphVOX Pro, you need to carefully look at the section for choosing a template that will act as a substitute for your voice (you can select them from the list).
If you click the Get More Voices button, additional voices can be downloaded from the Internet, which are independently integrated into the program, after which they become available for use.
Voice Change Sector
The next section is for manually changing the voice. Here, three faders (sliders) are used for tuning:
- Pitch Shift - pitch change;
- Timbre Shift - tone control;
- Timbre Strength - change the strength of the voice.
By changing the position of the sliders, you can achieve a change in the original voice even without selecting any template or adjust the predefined voices at your discretion.
Microphone Parameter Sector
This sector is used to display the microphone operation indication, and the Mute button allows you to temporarily turn it off or on again. Nothing complicated, but such a function can be very useful if you need to make sure that the interlocutor does not hear you for some time.
Effects and Equalizer
Finally, three more sections. In one of them there is an equalizer that allows you to fine-tune the frequency characteristics of either your own voice, or the template that is selected for substitution.
In the next sector, the user is offered several basic effects that can add colors: phase change, choral or monotonous sound, echo (reverb and delay), etc. Each effect can be used either separately or by combining them together, creating unique combinations .
In the third section, there is a set of sound inserts for creating a background that will be voiced during the conversation (the sound of an alarm clock, the surroundings of a highway or a supermarket, the lowing of a cow, burping and much more).
Conclusion
As you can see, the issue of using this utility is not so complicated. True, to test all possible variations of voice changes, you will have to act, as it is called, by the method of scientific βpokingβ (especially since the settings allow you to do this).
However, the main problem, because of which the program may sometimes not work, is that during the initial setup it is imperative to make the correct choice of recording and communication devices (microphones). Otherwise, in theory, special difficulties should not arise. And the activation of the application in relation to the same Skype program looks very simple and consists, again, only in choosing the necessary device, not to mention the currently used templates in the MorphVOX Pro application.
