A pick, as you know, is a transplant of seedlings to another, more spacious place to obtain a larger area for food. A picking of pepper seedlings somewhat slows down the growth of plants, since the roots of bell pepper are quite tender and very sensitive to mechanical stress.
Therefore, if possible, it is advisable to grow seedlings of pepper without picking. Sowing seeds for this is done in late February - early March. For better seed germination, they need to be soaked in a biostimulant solution or held in warm water for several hours. Thus, you can get seedlings of pepper without picking, but, nevertheless, many gardeners grow seedlings with picking.
Plants with a fibrous root system, which includes pepper, after a dive, take root in a new place much easier than plants with a rod root system, so a correct picking of seedlings will only slow down its growth for a short time.
Seedlings growing seedlings require more and more nutrients and light, strong plants begin to drown out weak ones, so it is important not to miss the timing of diving seedlings. If the seedlings are not provided with everything necessary, it will grow lean and frail, and then a good harvest can no longer be obtained. Indeed, by the time of transplanting to the plot, the seedlings should reach a certain level of development; a developed root system, a strong stem, leaves and generative organs should form in it. This allows you to get an earlier crop. Such seedlings can only be grown on a sufficient area. For pepper, containers in diameter should be 8-10 centimeters in diameter and 12-15 centimeters in depth.
Diving pepper seedlings into separate cups promotes faster growth of plants, and also reduces the risk of infection with various diseases.
Cups can be made of different materials - paper, polyethylene, the main thing is that there is a hole in the bottom to remove excess moisture. The containers must be filled with a special mixture composed of soil, humus and sand. Peppers seedlings are picked in compacted but not compacted soil. The soil mixture should not be added to the edge of the cup two centimeters.
Duration of picking seedlings can be different. Plants dive both in the cotyledon phase and in the stage of formation of true leaflets - in both cases this is the correct picking of seedlings. It is known that cotyledon leaves assimilate nutrients, therefore it is important not to damage them during transplantation, otherwise the plants will lag behind in development. This is proven by experience.
Peppers seedlings should be picked to a certain depth. If cotyledonous leaves protrude 2-3 centimeters above the ground in transplanted plants, then pepper seedlings are picked correctly. If the leaves protrude one centimeter, then the growth point may be covered with soil and seedlings will die.
The day before the dive, the containers with the soil mixture should be filled with water to plant the seedlings in moist soil. You need to dive quickly, until the plants have wilted, for this you need to use a special spatula or peg.
First, a special peg in the soil of the container is a small depression. Then, taking the plant with two fingers by the stem, dig it with a peg and lower it into the prepared recess in the soil mixture so that the cotyledons remain half a centimeter above the soil level. Without releasing the plant, carefully pour the soil into the hole in the soil, let it go, compact the soil around and water the planted seedling well.
That's all. If the seedlings are now provided with good conditions for growth and development, the seedlings will turn out to be powerful and healthy.
