How it all began
Back in 1941, one of the leading Sochi engineers I.G. Shevkunenko was given a special task - to build an airfield in Adler as soon as possible. Wartime dictated its conditions. And on July 24, the future Adler received the first plane. But the airport’s birthday is September 1, when a combat crew landed on its airfield.
The military airfield was far from the handsome man who meets us today. Adler is an airport that began its full existence only in 1956. It was then that the first runway and airport terminal were built.

Today, Adler is the airport that ranks second among all the airports of the Southern District of Russia. In terms of capacity, it is in 9th place, behind such megacities as Moscow, St. Petersburg and several other major cities of the country. The complex has 2 runways for takeoff and landing, the length of which is more than 4 km. Adler can miss 500 passengers per hour from international flights and up to 2,000 people on domestic airlines. It serves not only the largest resort in Russia, but also Abkhazia, Tuapse.
The Basel Aero company, to which the airport belongs, promises that it will continue the reconstruction of the flight complex, and in the near future Adler will be able to receive up to 10 million passengers during the year.
