A very convenient tool for diagnosing and configuring computers at a distance is remote access. Previously, it was used only by system administrators and people of other professions related to the IT world. Today, utilities for working with PCs that cannot be directly interacted with are available to ordinary users.
Teamviewer
One of the most popular programs with which remote access is performed is TeamViewer. The only condition that must be met before controlling the PC from a distance is to run the application on both devices. All transmitted and received data is encrypted, which makes the connection secure.
One of the main advantages of the product is that for non-commercial purposes, the tool is completely free. It does not even need to be installed to manage it. This is convenient if the program runs on someone else's computer and subsequently will not be used regularly.
On the website of the developer company, clients are available that are designed not only for Windows. Among the supported platforms are Linux, MacOS, iOS, Android, Windows Phone. The program interface is Russified.
Installation
To make the remote access connection as comfortable as possible, you must first install the application. The fact is that the launch of the portable version allows you to work only a few minutes, after which the connection will have to be restored.
Download the installation package from the official website of the manufacturer. Double click on it to launch. After that, the user will be given the choice:
- install;
- install to control the computer on which the installation is performed;
- to run.
In any case, check the box next to "non-commercial use".
Next, the program files will be unpacked and copied. Immediately upon completion of the process, TeamViewer will start.
Customization
Access to a remote computer via the Internet does not require additional configuration of the software, however it can be configured "for yourself". To enter the program settings, you need to click on the inscription "Advanced", and then select the line "Options".
The tab "Basic" allows you to:
- Select the name displayed in the contact list.
- Set up a network (select a proxy server, allow you to turn on the computer remotely).
- Enter the name and password of the account if you have previously registered on the developer's site.
The item "Security" makes it possible:
- Set a personal password so that access to a remote computer via the Internet can be performed without confirmation.
- Choose the reliability of a random access code.
- You can also change the rules for connecting to your computer.
- Set the rules for connecting to a PC in whose OS the user is not logged in.
The Management tab provides a choice of image quality transmitted from a remote device. If the Internet is slow, check the box next to "Hide wallpaper" and set the "Quality" switch to "Optimize speed".
Invite a partner
The open tab "Management" in the main window of the program allows you to set up remote access to your computer. The columns "ID" and "Password" are displayed here. All data from them should be sent to the partner who will manage your PC. Remember that the code and identifier should only be transmitted to trusted people (to avoid risks).
Remote computer management
On the right side of the program window is a panel called "Manage Computer". To connect to a remote device, in the "Partner ID" column, enter the identifier that the other person gave you.
After clicking the "Connect" button and establishing a connection, the application will request an access password. Enter it and click on the sign "Login". After a few seconds, a window opens on the monitor screen where the desktop of the PC that you are currently managing will be shown.
Setting up internal Windows tools
It is not necessary to install any additional applications to establish remote access. Windows 7 has a built-in utility.
Its configuration is performed as follows:
- Right-click on the "My Computer" icon and select "Properties."
- In the window that opens, click on the "Advanced Options" line.
- Click on the Remote Access tab.
- Check the box next to "Allow connection."
- By clicking on the "Advanced" button, you can configure the maximum session duration. After that, the connection will be disconnected forcibly. If you uncheck the "Allow management" item, the connected user will not be able to perform any actions, but will see all the manipulations performed on the computer.
- At the bottom of the window, set the switch to "Allow connections".
- Click on "Select Users." Add here the one whose data will be used for login. Keep in mind that a password must be set for the user.
If you need to connect to any computer, follow these steps:
- Open the Start menu, then the Accessories directory and select Remote Desktop Connection.
- In the "Computer" column, type the IP address of the PC that will be accessed and click on the "Connect" button.
- A window will open asking you to enter a password and username.
Before connecting, if necessary, program settings can be made located on several tabs.
- General Here you can save the configuration so that access to a remote computer via the Internet does not require entering an IP address and changing parameters every time.
- Screen . Setting the resolution and number of colors.
- Local resources allow you to disable the playback of sounds on a remote computer. You can also specify here whether to use keyboard shortcuts and whether local PC devices will be available after connecting (printers, hard drives).
In the " Programs " tab, you can add those applications that will be automatically launched during the connection.
Access to a remote computer via the Internet using the means built into Windows can be performed in a limited number of cases. The biggest obstacle is the need for an external IP. Not all providers provide this option for free.
