One of the best programs for the development of erudition. One of those programs that many of us have grown up on. "Destroyers of legends" many people instilled a love of the exact sciences: from mathematics to physics. Over the years, the project just didn’t appear, what two crazy presenters didn’t like, just to achieve a result. But, as you know, everything is coming to an end.
In 2016, Discovery uncompromisingly confronted the audience with the fact: “Legend Destroyers” was shut down. Why this happened - no one explained.
Show idea
Initially, this program was offered to one of the little-known channels by producer Peter Rhys. His idea was simple: all the well-known statements, stories, rumors, gossip and myths that walk among people and on the Internet are tested by specialists with the help of scientific experiments. First, they explain the mechanism of action of a particular phenomenon, and then create the conditions under which it is realistic to test a particular thing. In order to interest the viewer, Peter Rhys had only 3 pilot issues, after which the program “Legend Destroyers” was successfully launched. Discovery channel gave the opportunity to exist this magnificent show.
Driving gear
Peter Rees was delighted at the time by Jamie Heineman, whom he had previously interviewed. The work of this man was to invent special effects, and in this area he worked for a long time, he had enough knowledge and experience to conduct various kinds of tests. But, as you know, one head is good, and two is better: Jamie thought that he was not charismatic and cheerful enough to run this program alone, so he invited his friend Adam Seijige there. For 14 years, the broadcasts of the presenters did not change, and it seemed that the question of when the show would end should not be raised at all, because this program is one of the longest-playing in the history of television. Now everyone is puzzling over why they closed the program "Legend Destroyers".
Program concept
Of course, two people can’t cope with a large amount of work, in addition, they try to make the shows as spectacular as possible throughout all issues, therefore there is a whole team of assistants and co-hosts who work on their project in parallel with the hosts. A team of three people for several seasons took on simpler tasks, coping with easier technical tasks.
In 2016, it was announced that the "Legend Destroyers" are closing. Why this happened - for the most part, you need to be interested in representatives of the Discovery channel. In the meantime, Jamie sadly recalls his participation in the project and the life that came before him. He developed robots for Star Wars, participated in the creation of the Robot Battle program, made special effects for The Matrix, but with the advent of the Destroyers he devoted all his time to them.
During the existence of the program, a total of:
- verified over 920 myths;
- conducted more than 2590 experiments;
- filmed 14 seasons of the program over 13 years;
- 900 explosions were made;
- 248 episodes were filmed.
The concept of transmission is quite simple: keeping within one hour of time, it is necessary to experimentally refute or prove a particular myth. Often, testing various rumors, Adam and Jamie invited a specialist from the relevant field.
All episodes of the show come out spectacular and interesting thanks to the love of explosions, weapons, risk. Participants often received minor injuries. But the policy of the entertainment program is such that experiments are not carried out if there is a risk of a threat to the life of animals and people.
From the first to the last issue
For 14 seasons, the presenters and creators have preserved many memories of the program. Yes, and they themselves became famous throughout the world - mustache scientists recognize every person who has ever watched Discovery. If in the first issues Adam and Jamie mostly worked independently, often acting as experimental, then over time an experienced team of people joined them, which allowed to significantly increase the scale of the show.
In the pilot issue of the program, Jamie and Adam first took up the most widespread myth of using Cola Cola in combination with other products, trying to explode their stomachs from the inside. When the program went on the air, the experiments became much more serious. They blew up the toilets, fired from machine guns, tried to make a big explosion, and all this is “Legend Destroyers”. Season 1, series 1 was the beginning of a new, exciting life for these people.
The ability to make fun of each other well made this scientific program more interesting and entertaining, and over time, three co-hosts appeared: Grant Imahara - a specialist in the field of robotics, Tori Bellechi - a model designer for films and Cary Byron - an artist. They took the liberty of helping two curious scientists.
In the final episodes, Adam and Jamie were left alone again, but the project did not get any worse: they continued to refute or confirm myths in the same quality manner. They came up with increasingly sophisticated ways to explode something in the program "Legend Destroyers". The final season was presented to the audience on January 9, 2016. Adam mentioned on Twitter that they intend to destroy 13 myths from various categories, and promised the audience a truly “explosive” farewell. He also mentioned that he was very sorry to say goodbye to the series and warmly recalls how they filmed The Legendaries. Season 1, Episode 1 - became a grand and successful start.
Why close the program
In 2016, Discovery Channel announced that the next season would be the last for the Legend Destroyers. Of course, the fans (and the program had a lot of them during the broadcast) rebelled, and many questions immediately appeared: “Legend Destroyers” close - why? How? For what? And what are the reasons? Naturally, the Discovery channel is not going to give a clear answer to this question, but we can safely assume that the show has already become obsolete and there are simply no ideas for new myths. In the end, sooner or later it all ends. Many generations grew up on this popular science program, rediscovering the world. The only desire of the hosts of the show was to finish the season with dignity, having aired their best works under the proud title of "Legend Destroyers" (final season), which they successfully coped with.
What's next?
Discovery Channel completely refused to release the program, but this does not mean that she died completely. Another organization called Science wants to continue filming episodes of Mythbusters, but having changed the presenters and slightly changed the concept of the show. Indeed, for many, it is very unpleasant to hear the news: "Legend Destroyers" are closing. Why? It makes no sense to ask, instead it is better to continue it.
Adam and Jamie, having finished this show, transferred to another project and are now working on a series about the scientist. Probably, the audience will find many spectacular scenes and favorite explosions.
As for Tory, Carey and Grant - they are developing a new program on another channel, and soon another scientific program will be released on their behalf, which, however, is not related to myths.
