Idea of creation
The building of the Operetta Theater in Kiev is the Trinity People’s House, which was built in the years 1901-1902 in the style of rationalism. The architect of the building was Gennady Antonovsky. For him, the construction of this building was the most significant architectural work. The idea of creating a people's house arose in the circles of the Kiev Literacy Society. The house was supposed to be a kind of club for a wide range of visitors. The Literacy Society did not have enough funds to implement its project to the full, but wealthy residents of the city interestedly responded to the proposal and invested their money in the construction.
About the architect
Gennady Antonovsky was chosen as the architect of this building on a competitive basis. His rival was Nikolai Zhukov. Antonovsky decided to make drawings and start construction work disinterestedly. This circumstance allowed us to start work in the near future. At the final stage of construction, Gennady Antonovsky slept. He handed over the project management to his work colleagues - P.I. Hollandsky and V.P. Motsoku also on an unselfish basis.
Theater inside and out
The Operetta Theater (Kiev), whose photo can be seen below, is a two-story brick building. The shape of the building is very simple - rectangular. On the longitudinal part you can find the lobby, foyer, auditorium and the stage. Initially, the audience hall was designed for 1006 people, but after reconstruction it began to accommodate only 799 spectators. In the hall you can see two tiers of balconies that rely on cast-iron columns and stalls.
The building was built in a rational style with the use of decorative and structural possibilities of masonry. The windows in the room are very large and elongated. In profile, the building resembles a sketch of modernist architecture. The central part of the main facade is decorated with stucco decoration and busts of N.V. Gogol and T.G. Shevchenko.

Bogdan Strutinsky got a difficult task - to turn the "old pages" of the history of the theater and write new ones. For a very short period of time, he underwent dramatic changes in the usual way. He significantly updated the creative composition and successfully combined classical and modern productions in the repertoire. Despite the slowness and stagnation of theatrical life, B. Performing theater artists to the sounds of a symphony orchestra, chic design and a subtle directorial idea made this premiere a real holiday.
It is also worth mentioning the premiere of the ballet "Mozart Underground". This premiere was a bold and original decision. The authors decided to convey the divine music of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart using the language of dance. The main idea of the performance is, of course, love, which pushes us to wonderful actions, ignites hearts and gives warmth. The storyline is such that a young but impoverished man falls in love with a rich girl. The ballet was intended not to transform Mozart’s music in a modern way, but to convey the idea that some things have no age and term.
