A swivel is a paramount element of fishing gear. Its main purpose is to prevent twisting of the fishing line during the work of the bait. It protects it from hooks and tears. To increase the life of the tackle, every angler needs to know how to tie a swivel to a fishing line.
In almost any fishing method, swivels are used to set the bait and equipment. The correct swivel rotates effortlessly around its axis in both directions without twisting the gear.
Varieties
Swivels are made of high-strength steel that is not susceptible to corrosion. They vary in size, design and strength, but have the same basic function: to prevent twisting of the fishing line.
The smallest swivels can hold a load of up to 1 kg, medium ones up to 20 kg, and large ones up to 100 kg.
A device is considered to be of high quality if it is perfectly sanded, easily and quickly rotates around its axis.
Where to use?
Going fishing, anglers with experience prepare several gears in advance, where the swivels have different sizes and designs:
- in the float gear, the main and the fishing line are connected by one double swivel;
- without a bobber on a live bait, two fastenings are made: the main tackle is combined with a sinker and a leash;
- when fishing for predatory fish on the fry, two swivels are necessary: one connects the leash with live bait, the other with the float;
- Fishing on the “track” involves the use of a triple swivel so that light bait can sink into the pond.
In snap-fishing rods, the swivel is a significant element, and with certain fishing techniques - the main one. Movable mounts increase the quality of the fishing line up to 40%, if you understand how to tie a swivel to the fishing line.
Factors that affect the catch:
- the size of the mobile device;
- feature of work;
- node reliability;
- ease of tying technology.
How to tie a swivel to a fishing line?
Due to how tightly the mobile device is connected to the fishing line or other fishing tackle, the fishing technique depends. There are many different ways to do this using special nodes:
- "clinch";
- Palomar
- Greenner
- "eight";
- "executioner";
- Jensik.
These most popular and high-quality nodes are easy to use. When knitting any of them, it is necessary to wet the material before tightening.
"Clinch"
The knot is simple and reliable, ideal for monofilament. On a fishing line with a large diameter, it is undesirable to use it - it can untie. How to tie a swivel to a fishing line? The sequence of actions is as follows:
- insert the fishing line into the swivel eye;
- extend the end by 10 cm;
- leaving a small loop, wrap the end 8 times around the gear;
- pull the end of the fishing line into the loop near the swivel eye and pull it into the loop that was formed when the fishing line was returned to the small loop;
- knot to pull off.
Palomar
Universal technology allows you to tie this knot on the fishing line, monofilament and braided cord:
- Double the fishing line;
- screw the loop that you received into the ear of the swivel;
- tie a simple knot with a bent end;
- put a loop on the swivel from above;
- tighten the knot, cut off the ends.
Who knows how to knit a swivel to a fishing line with a Palomar knot, constantly uses it.
Greenner
Very solid and resistant knot. In addition to attaching a swivel, it is used for tying spinners, leashes and various bait:
- Insert the working end of the fishing line through the eye and extend it by 15 cm;
- direct it along the main fishing line;
- 5 cm from the swivel, turn it back to the eye, making a loop;
- wrap 5 turns around a double fishing line;
- knot to tighten.
"Eight"
The connection with this node is reliable, strong. When tying, there is no deformation of the fishing line. The connection never weakens when used.
If necessary, the knot is easily untied. The technique of tying is simple:
- double the fishing line to form a loop;
- put the ends of the loop at the base one on top of the other. The lower part is led beyond the upper, forming a figure eight;
- put the ends into the loop. The result was a knot-eight;
- pull the knot, trim the ends.
Executioner Node
A strong and simple knot is tied like this:
- with the end of the fishing line, the length of which is 15 cm, insert a swivel into the hole;
- direct it along the main fishing line, getting a loop near the swivel hole;
- to return the end of the line back, making a large loop;
- wrap the double part of the large loop with seven turns;
- Pass the fishing line through the loop near the eye of the swivel and tighten.
Jensik
A simple node that has been used for a long time. It can be performed by any novice angler if he understands how to tie a swivel to a fishing line:
- screw a part of the fishing line of 15 cm into the hole in the swivel;
- make a loop near the eyelet and once again screw it into it;
- form a second loop the same size as the first. Insert the working end of the fishing line into the ear again;
- when forming the third loop, wrap the end of the fishing line 3 times around the loops;
- tighten the knot.
How to tie a swivel to a braid?
Fasten the swivel to a braided fishing line using several well-known knots.
Consider how to do this using the hardened clinch node:
- screw the working end of the fishing line into the eye, leaving 15 cm;
- Double the fishing line;
- entwine the end seven times near the main fishing line;
- stretch it into the resulting loop;
- again pull the end of the fishing line into the large loop that just happened;
- Pull off the wetted assembly.
The disadvantage of this method is that it is not suitable for thick woods and is used for swivels, in which the eyelet is medium in size, made of thin wire.
The popular “Palomar” knot is perfectly suitable for tying braid line to a swivel. It does not untie; if necessary, it is cut or torn. How to properly attach the swivel knot “Palomar”, was discussed above.
The variety of methods for tying fishing line to a swivel is great. It is not necessary to know and be able to tie each of them. It is enough to pick up a few reliable and uncomplicated in execution, so that fishing is always happy with luck.
