Yekaterinburg is famous for its musical productions. The Opera and Ballet Theater (address: Lenin Avenue, 46a) is the pride of the city. His repertoire includes not only classical performances, but also modern ones. Each year, the theater pleases its audience with several premieres.
Theater History
Back in the 19th century I saw the first performances of Yekaterinburg. The opera and ballet theater appeared much later than this event. Its first season was opened only in 1912. Prior to this, since 1874, there was only a circle of lovers in the city, which staged wonderful musical performances. The first opera staged in the theater was Life for the Tsar by Mikhail Ivanovich Glinka. Its premiere took place in 1912. The first ballet, which was staged at the theater, is the “Magic Flute” to the music of R. Drigo. Its premiere took place in 1914.

Yekaterinburg very quickly fell in love with the first professional troupe in the city. The Opera and Ballet Theater immediately won a big name. After 10 years, he became known far outside the city and received the glory of one of the best in Russia. Wonderful artists have always worked in the theater. It was here that such outstanding personalities as Boris Shtokolov, Sergey Lemeshev, Leonid Baratov, Yuri Gulyaev, Ivan Kozlovsky and many others began their career.

"Passenger"
Yekaterinburg will soon see the first opera work by composer Moses Weinberg. The Opera and Ballet Theater in the new season will present to the public the play "Passenger". It was written in the 60s of the 20th century, but the first production took place only in 2006. The plot of the opera is based on the story of the Polish writer Z. Posmysh. The action takes place on a transatlantic liner. The main character, Lisa, with her husband, a diplomat, is sailing to Brazil. There she meets a woman who seems familiar to her. Lisa tells her husband about her assumptions and reveals the truth about herself - she was a guard at Auschwitz. It seems to Lisa that the woman on the airliner is very similar to one of the prisoners of the camp - Marta, who she had long considered dead. The heroine is trying to find out who this passenger is, who stirred her memories.
