Orel Airport is located six kilometers from the city center of the same name. The above-mentioned object of transport infrastructure has a sufficiently large take-off and landing area, which is the landing place for aircraft weighing almost a hundred tons.
A bit of history
Orel Airport began to be operated in 1909, when an airplane with cargo was sent from it. Four years after the establishment of Soviet power in Russia, an aerostation was created, which became the connecting transport link between the cities of Oryol and Moscow.
In 1923, the route was expanded to Ukrainian Kharkov. From that moment, the terminal began to operate at full strength. Additional airliners were purchased, which were put on the balance sheet of the transport company.
Airport Modernization Experiment
In 1998, the Orel Airport became attractive to investors. One of the commercial structures expressed a desire to modernize the terminal building and the runway. After the reconstruction, the latter became longer, which allowed to increase the status of the transport infrastructure.
The Orel Airport was updated for several years, and only at the end of 1999 a solemn event was held to mark its opening.
It should be noted that after the investor canceled the contract in 2004, the financial situation of the terminal began to deteriorate.
Today a sad picture opens up for those who decided to come to the city of Oryol: the airport of the same name barely works (there is only one dispatching service to track flights). In the spring of 2011, this facility became an integral part of the state program, which provides for the reconstruction of large aviation hubs.
What are the prospects for the airport in the future?
However, subsequently officials of the Ministry of Economic Development of Russia reported that the allocation of allocations from the state treasury for the repair of an airport in the city of Orel does not mean that it will be fully operational, since there is no operator and base carrier in the region. In this regard, the federal authorities recommended that their colleagues from the region focus on other transport options. After all, another ten years will pass before the financial situation of the airport recovers, and only then can the enterprise become competitive.
The federal authorities cited the arguments for making such an βunpopularβ decision that the modernization of the airport would cost more than three billion rubles. About two hundred million rubles a year will be needed for its annual maintenance. Of course, the regional budget will not βpullβ such a burden.
Experts are confident that the only way out of this situation is to find a large investor who, together with the state, will seriously modernize the Orel Airport.
The flight schedule today confirms the fact that the company can be helped to "get out" of the financial crisis. So, for example, domestic routes will be saved: Surgut, Krasnoyarsk, Omsk, Sochi, Anapa, St. Petersburg. You can fly beyond the borders of your native state: Dusseldorf, Hanover, Sharm El Sheikh, Dubai, Bangkok.
