On March 17, 1938, finally, the long-awaited son Rudolf Nuriev was born in the family of military political instructor Hamet and housewife Farida. The biography of this great man began very extraordinary. The fourth and last child of the couple (after the daughters of Rosa, Rozida and Lydia) was born on a train, somewhere between the Razdolnoye station and Irkutsk. Father was soon appointed to serve in Moscow, but war did not allow the family to take root in the capital. Mother with children was evacuated to Ufa, and all the childhood and youth years of the future choreographer passed in this city.
The biography of Rudolf Nuriev shows that the talent in the boy opened early. At the age of seven, he attended a variety of choreographic circles and sections of folk dance. When he was eleven, Rudolph decided: most of all he liked classical ballet. He takes lessons from the prima of the Diaghilev ballet A.I. Udaltsova, and then with E.K. Voitovich - soloists of the Kirov Theater. The future celebrity began her career at the age of fifteen, joining the troupe of the Ufa Opera House.
In 1955, the biography of Rudolf Nureyev was enriched with a new event - moving to Leningrad, where he enters the choreographic school. The talent of the young ballerun did not go unnoticed: after three years he even soloed in the productions of the theater named after Kirov. While still a student, he travels abroad, in particular, to the VII World Youth Festival in Vienna (1959), where he is awarded a gold medal. This was followed by a tour in the GDR, Egypt and Bulgaria.
In May 1961, the biography of Rudolf Nuriev dramatically changed its course. The choreographer in the troupe escaped from behind the curtain of the Iron Curtain and went to Paris. But already on June 16 of the same year, not waiting for the end of the tour, he effectively sought political asylum with a spectacular gesture. How long did he hesitate, choosing between a guaranteed career in his unfree country and the uncertain fate of a “defector”? We won’t know this ...
The reaction of the former Motherland was lightning fast: already in April 1962, the Leningrad City Court issued its “fair” verdict: seven years in prison and confiscation of property. The only good news is that the verdict was pronounced in absentia. Great talent was not destined for the abyss, and already from June 23, 1961, the biography of Rudolf Nureyev was replenished with new professional achievements. A ballet troupe in Paris, then the London Covent Garden, where he dances together with Margot Fontaine, the Grand Opera, Milan La Scala, USA, Canada, the Vienna Theater ... In addition, Nuriev acts in films, in particular, in the film “Valentino” "(In 1977).
Only for two days, having a passport of an Austrian citizen in his pocket, he visited the USSR during perestroika to meet his dying mother (in 1987). Even then, he knew that he would survive her for a short while. In 1984, HIV was discovered in his blood. Since 1961, Nuriev has been in open communication with Dancer from Denmark
Eric Brun. They were a homosexual couple for 25 years, right up to Eric's death. Nureyev died of AIDS in January 1993 in Paris on the eve of
Orthodox Christmas. Two years before his death, he was rehabilitated as a victim of
political repression. The great choreographer and dancer Rudolf Nuriev was buried in the cemetery of St. Genevieve near the capital of France.
