Few people are familiar with such an invention as hard contact lenses. It sounds a little worse than, for example, soft lenses. Although it does not seem at first glance, hard lenses let oxygen through better than the most well-known soft counterparts. Many people prefer to use silicone-hydrogel specimens, which are known for their safety, but they also pass less oxygen through themselves than hard lenses. Although most people are forced to use just such lenses for health reasons.
Another advantage that hard contact lenses have is clarity of vision. They are also more wear-resistant, which means that they will last longer. At a cost they are cheaper than their counterparts.
Indications for use
It is recommended to use hard contact lenses if the use of soft lenses does not bring any effect. And this happens in the following cases:
- A person has increased requirements for quality and visual acuity. As a rule, high vision requirements are imposed by people working as operating surgeons, drivers, jewelers, etc.
- If astigmatism is detected. With this disease, soft lenses are not able to give out 100% vision, since the shape of the cornea of ββthe eye changes.
- If the shape of keratoconus is changed.
- In the period after the correction of vision by surgery (operations such as laser correction of myopia). It happens that patients are not even able to wear lenses after surgery, and they are prescribed glasses.
Hard contact lenses. Terms of Use
If the doctor prescribed vision correction using hard lenses, then after you start using this technique, you will need some time to get used to them. The adaptation period ranges from 5 to 7 days, for each person individually. In some cases, it may take longer. Do not worry about wearing such lenses, because they do not cause any pain. To quickly overcome the feeling of discomfort after using hard lenses, you need to wear them as often as possible. And to do this even when there is no such need. The more often you wear them, the faster your eyes will get used to. If you take a break, then after again it will take time to adapt the eyes. Therefore, lenses for vision correction should be worn every day and do not change them for others.
How to store and care for hard eye lenses
Like soft lenses, hard lenses are worn directly on the cornea, so they require thorough cleaning and care, as well as compliance with all operating rules. However, care for hard lenses is less difficult than for soft ones, since they do not grow with pathogenic fungi and other microorganisms.
They should be stored in a specially equipped container filled with a disinfectant solution. Compliance with this rule is very important, since the solution disinfects the lens, and the container reduces the risk of deformation.
The most difficult thing to use LCDs is their initial selection. After all, each lens should perfectly match the surface of the ocular cornea. In this case, special equipment is used, so the selection is possible only from a qualified specialist, even if these are decorative lenses for the eyes.
