It often happens that physical information carriers cannot be used for one reason or another. Imagine a situation: you downloaded an image of some kind of game from the Internet, but there are no blanks at hand for recording it! Surely this happened to many.
Of course, you can install this image on a USB flash drive, but not everyone knows how to do it. What to do in this case? A virtual drive will come to your aid, from which you will install the program or game you need. It is not difficult to create it, and this does not require any specific computer knowledge and skills.
Let's look at the principles of creating a virtual disk using the Ultra ISO program as an example. In the basic version, the application is completely free, and therefore it is ideal for domestic users. Before creating a virtual drive, you will need to install Ultra ISO on your computer. The installation process is extremely simple, any user will cope with it, even if he does not have a deep knowledge of working with a PC.
After starting the application, you can see that its main working window is divided into four sections. In the top left window you can see the name and some characteristics of the image you are currently working with. In the upper right section you can see already more detailed information about it, including a complete list of all folders and files that are on the virtual disk.
In the lower left compartment is the same Windows Explorer, with which you can find the necessary image on the hard drive. The lower right window duplicates the functions of its right upper “colleague”.
Let's take a closer look at how to create a virtual Blu-ray drive (or CD / DVD drive). We go to the "Options" menu, which is located in the toolbar of the program. We are looking for the “Settings” item there. Choosing it, we get the opportunity to set the required number of devices. Please note: in the free version of the application you can install a maximum of 8 disks. Would you like more? Then you have to buy the full version of the program. So, having chosen the number of drives you need, click on the “OK” button. All! You have created a virtual drive, which is visible from the standard Windows Explorer.
In some versions of the program there is one small bug. The fact is that when choosing an odd number of disks, the program for some reason cannot create them. For example, it can easily create 4 disks, and when creating the seventh virtual drive, it can “stumble”.
By the way, why else would the average user need them? To begin with, using a virtual disk, you can avoid damage to your physical medium. In simple terms, it’s best to create an image of your licensed copy of the game and run it from a virtual disk. So, the actual media will be less prone to abrasion and scratching.
In addition, in some cases, the virtual drive for Windows 7 can be used to create an avi video file from a virtual DVD image. In this case, the process will go much faster, because the speed of a virtual disk is many times higher than the speed of a physical disk!
