Glaucoma means eye disease. The reason for it is an increase in intraocular pressure. In a healthy person, this indicator is always at the same level, and with glaucoma, due to a violation of the outflow of fluid, it rises. First, a person begins to see worse, then there is a restriction of the zone of visibility, and then complete blindness may occur.
Glaucoma treatment begins with a diagnosis. First, the doctor must determine the form of the disease. There are two of them: closed-angle and open-angle glaucoma. There is also the concept of “mixed” when there are signs of the two above forms. Often the patient does not notice signs of the manifestation of the disease, and the process of visual impairment lasts for years. Glaucoma is a very insidious disease that is completely incurable.
After making an accurate diagnosis, an ophthalmologist prescribes an individual treatment regimen. It depends on the form of the disease, the stage and the presence of concomitant diseases in the patient.

How is glaucoma treated with medication?
The main treatment for glaucoma is the use of drugs that lower intraocular pressure. These medicines come in the form of eye drops. These include, for example, Oftan or Timoptik preparations. The technique of instilling eye drops is simple and assimilates quite quickly. Medicines are also used to lower the production of ocular secretions. The drug "Diacarb" is the most common of this series. It is taken orally after a meal.
Glaucoma Surgery
Laser treatment of glaucoma consists in restoring the correct and sufficient outflow of fluid in the eye. With the open-angle form of the disease, laser trabeculoplasty is often used. It is worth saying that this method does not give a long-term effect, and patients even after successful surgery use drugs further.
More operable angle-closure glaucoma. Surgical treatment of this form is more effective and reliable. Laser iridotomy helps patients with this diagnosis. The method consists in making a small hole in the eye with a laser, which will improve the outflow of moisture from its front chamber.
There is also a method of eye shunting, which consists in staging a drainage device through a thin incision. However, this method is quite expensive and unsafe, since complications can occur after surgery.
Other treatments
Today you can find many recipes for treating glaucoma folk remedies. They are applicable only in combination with drug therapy and surgery, but in no way replace them. Glaucoma treatment should be carried out by a specialist at the first sign of the onset of the disease. Do not self-medicate.
