One of the most common problems connecting to the Internet, whether it is a direct cable connection or using a private virtual VPN network with a Wi-Fi router, is a situation where the system reports that an Internet error 868 has occurred. Hereinafter, some basic ways to resolve it for general cases. Let us separately look at the issue of fixing the failure when using the Beeline connection, taken as an example (for other operators and providers, such a failure may have a different number, but the essence of this does not change).
What does connection error 868 mean?
So, what does the user say on the screen message indicating this failure? As a rule, when connecting to the Internet, error 868 indicates that the network adapter failed to initialize the IP address of the server through which the connection is made.
In the case of a VPN server, this connection is through PPTP or L2TP. However, the problem can occur equally with both wired and wireless connections. In exactly the same way, this situation is typical for almost all Windows-systems, starting with the "export" and higher.
The main causes of the failure
If we talk about why error 868 appears, then there are several main reasons to note:
- technical problems with a wired connection;
- consequences of viral infection;
- Incorrect network connection settings
- restrictions on access rights;
- Blocking the connection with third-party programs or the Windows firewall.
We fix technical problems

Finally, with regard to the Beeline operator. It is not so simple. As a rule, the computer system cannot determine the servers vpn.internet.beeline.ru and tp.internet.beeline.ru, which entails the occurrence of failure 868.
We look further. If, as mentioned above, the IP address during the verification starts with a value of 10, everything is in order, you can start connecting.
