Using the Internet, whose speed is low, and performing everyday tasks in it, I want to speed up their implementation. It’s good when the speed of data exchange allows it.
But what if your provider has set some restrictions on the transfer of traffic or you have a dial-up connection? But I want more: accelerate using a proxy server. How to use proxies, setup and installation will be described in detail below. Now I want to draw your attention to what an intermediate server is.
Services of an intermediary. What is and how to install a proxy
This is a separate computer or a local program that plays the role of an intermediary between your computer and the "outside" world of the Internet. Data from the local network or a separate device is transmitted to the proxy. Further, all receipts (reception and transmission) are carried out through an intermediate server, and the result is sent to the user's end device.
What gives the installation of intermediate communication
Thus, the question of how to use a proxy server is relevant, because at the expense of an intermediary computer you can speed up the receipt of data on the network, become anonymous, filter insecure information and perform many similar tasks.
How to install and configure the server:
- Download the application for proxy services. For example, squid is a popular solution in this area. It can be downloaded at www.squid-cache.org
- The copied archive must be unzipped to a directory with the same name on the system partition with. If you choose a path other than the specified one, you will have to do the editing of some predefined scripts.
- In the installation options, choose to install the application as a windows service. To create a cache - a special repository for accelerating data loading - run the install_step1.bat and step2.bat scripts sequentially through the command terminal.
- How to use proxies further? Now you have a service called squid25. To verify that it starts, open the System Services window through the MMC.
- A browser is a program that you use to download resources to the Internet. Each modern travel guide has a set of settings. As a rule, on the “network” or “network services” tab, you can specify proxy settings with the specified parameters: 127.0.0.1 - ip address, 3128 - data receiving port.
- If there is no such tab in your browser, carefully review the neighboring settings, perhaps this option is arranged in another category of services.
- How to use a proxy server from a similar provider? In the same way. Change the address and port settings to those that will be the parameters of another intermediary, and save them in the guidebook. In addition, as mentioned earlier, a proxy can be a separate network unit with its own access characteristics.
Tips & Tricks
To increase the speed or privacy of the network at a higher level, use paid or elite proxies. The quality of intermediary services can be judged by the reputation of the resource and its credibility, offering such a service.
To make the proxy application run faster, periodically defragment the directory where the broker is installed.
How to disable proxies
If there is a need, you can disable this type of communication service. To do this, in browsers, where the server settings are registered, there is usually an item “direct connection” or “disable proxy use”. It depends on the specific guide. By selecting the appropriate item, you will disable communication through an intermediary - a program or a separate proxy computer.
If this is an application, you can uninstall it to save space. To do this, use the windows component “Add or Remove Applications” available through the control panel.
