Evening verification: the sacred ritual of military personnel

Each man (and in some cases women), who served in the army, the phrase "evening calibration" immediately causes a lot of memories. There is nothing surprising. If the same event is repeated throughout the entire military service on a daily basis, then in any case it is stored in memory. And if it is also accompanied by funny situations and the collective performance of a drill song - even more so.

So what kind of event is evening verification? Why and by whom is it carried out? How long does it take? What is accompanied and what stages consists of? If these questions interest the reader, then he can easily find the answers to them, collected in one small article.

What it is?

Evening verification is a regimen moment in the daily routine of a soldier, exactly the same as a morning inspection and divorce, a training session or an hour of soldier's writing. This regime moment is provided for in Article 235 of the Charter of the internal service of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation and is held daily in each military unit.

What is it for?

In the army, discipline is most important. Its violation is fraught with serious consequences in the form of out-of-turn orders or even โ€œrestโ€ on guardhouse. The movement of the personnel of the military unit is under constant control of the commander. He should know about those soldiers who are on dismissal, on a business trip, in a hospital and in all kinds of other places. But how to get this information? That is what evening calibration is for. Thus, the main objective of this event is the operational control of the movement of personnel.

Who is being held?

According to the Charter of the internal service of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, evening verification is carried out by the duty officer of the military unit. Its title varies depending on the size and type of unit. In a separate battalion, a lieutenant may also be a duty officer. The regiment must be checked by a senior officer โ€” major, lieutenant colonel, colonel, and so on.

What is accompanied by?

We found that the main goal of evening verification is to take into account personnel. In addition, this event has other secondary goals.

The first of them is bringing operational information to responsible persons in units. The duty officer brings the approximate daily routine the next day, possible nuances.

Evening verification in the army is not only a reconciliation of personnel. This is an evening walk that precedes verification. During a walk, each unit (company or a separate platoon) several times passes along the parade ground, performing a drill song. The techniques of drill training are being worked out. In the end, this is a walk in the fresh air, very appropriate before the end of the day and provided for by the schedule.

A very important point: contract servicemen rarely spend the night in an arrangement and do not take part in the verification process. An exception can only be a field exit, where the unit is present in full strength.

Order of conduct

It all starts with an evening walk. The walk begins at 21:40, respectively, the construction of the unit and preparations for it begin in 5-10 minutes. The unit gathers in the central aisle on a daily order: "Rota, for an evening walk BECOME".

After construction, the unit organizedly descends from the location and, at the command of the responsible person (duty officer, company foreman, individual platoon commander), begins to move to the parade ground. It should be noted that the responsible person is in the unit around the clock, on duty and monitors compliance with the regime.

Arriving at the parade ground, the unit begins to practice drills, sings drill songs. As a rule, several songs are performed. The company, the battalion, and the regiment have their own song.

Having performed songs and having worked out drill training techniques, the division takes its place in the ranks. The location of units begins from the very first (control at evening calibration is usually absent) to the last by its number. For example, 1 company is being built first, 2 - the second, and 3 - the third.

The person responsible for the unit after "parking" in the system takes out a list of evening verification. Externally, this document resembles a cool magazine. It also includes the last names, first names and patronymics (if any) of the military, but instead of evaluations there are notes on the actual whereabouts of the personnel.

Having taken out the list, the person in charge begins the evening ritual of verification. Why is the ritual? Because during its carrying out by military personnel no extra sound should be made. There are strict exceptions to this rule, such as these. Hearing his name, the soldier must loudly and clearly pronounce "I". He is noted as being present at the test. If a soldier is not in service (fired, sick, business trip, outfit, outside the barracks, and so on), then a specially appointed person, as a rule, from a sergeantโ€™s staff, loudly and clearly names the reason for his absence. The person in charge of the unit makes appropriate entries in the journal.

When the list for evening verification ends, the senior unit submits the commands "Become", "Equalize", "Peacefully", "Equalization in the middle" and go to the duty officer on the shelf. When approaching the officer, he takes three combat steps and reports on the condition of the personnel of the unit. After accepting the report, the regiment duty officer gives the command "Freely", which is duplicated by the person in charge for the unit. At the command of "Free", a soldier is allowed to loosen one of his supporting legs.

After verification, the unit either returns to the location and prepares to hang up, or a few more circles passes on the parade ground. An important point of the walk is the opportunity to visit a designated smoking area. This is important because the first months of service, many military personnel smoke on a schedule.

How long does it last?

Conducting evening verification may take a long time. It depends on the discipline and mood of the duty officer. If the military unit is small and there is no need to bring several hundred people together, then verification can take several hours. This phenomenon is especially common in "quarantine" during the first months of service of young soldiers.
