Brest College of Communications: history and specialties

A bit of history

School of Communications No. 15 in Brest was opened immediately after the end of the war in 1944. Then it was located in another building (the current college of light industry). Despite the devastation and lack of teachers, 266 students were enrolled immediately after the war in the specialties "Joiner" and "Locksmith Toolmaker". Then, from 1945 to 1949, the following specialties were opened:

  • telegraph line mechanic;
  • radio overseer;
  • overseer of the telephone network of the city;
  • cable line supervisor;
  • mail agent.

Over the years, at Brest College of Communication, specialties have changed depending on the requirements of technological progress and economic development.

College of Communications in Brest

For a long time, the institution was called vocational school. Students received vocational education. In 1998, it was renamed the Higher Vocational School of Communications, and the possibility of training for a secretary-referent (secondary specialized education) appeared. The name "Brest Vocational and Technical College of Communications" was assigned in 2002.

Training

Today, the professions are taught in the walls of the Brest College of Communications in the following areas:

  • electrician - operation and installation of communication equipment, operation of electrical equipment;
  • electrician - repair and maintenance of electronic computers;
  • telecommunications operator;
  • Secretary - organization of record keeping, postal service;
  • Assistant Secretary (organization and systematization of workflow);
  • technician (computer systems and networks, computers);
  • electrical technician (installation and maintenance of electrical equipment);
  • postal service;
  • record keeping.

For all the years of work, about 15 thousand graduates left the college, many of whom continued their studies in higher educational institutions and achieved career growth: they became managers, qualified specialists, and teachers.

In college, training is possible both at the expense of budgetary funds, and on a paid basis in all specialties. Duration of studies varies from 3 years on the basis of basic education to one and a half years after graduating from general secondary school. There is also a form of distance learning. Passing points at the Brest College of Communications are formed on the basis of a competition among incoming applicants and vary depending on the chosen profession.

For nonresident students provide the opportunity to live in a college dormitory. It is organized according to the block type; in 2013, repairs were carried out.
