Road marking - a means of orientation on the road

Correct road markings are designed to provide drivers with orientation on the road, organize traffic modes and indicate directions in all kinds of weather conditions. Thus, she is actively involved in real road traffic (along with signs and traffic lights). This allows you to increase the throughput of a particular road section.

Road marking

Traditionally, two types of markup are distinguished:
1. Vertical road marking.
2. Horizontal road marking.

The first is applied to road elements and additional structures designed to equip the road. Such marking is carried out using alternating stripes of black and white (with reflective properties). This gives the driver the opportunity to assess the dimensions of objects in the dark, for example, racks of road signs, bridge supports, viaducts, entrances and exits from tunnels, as well as curb stones.

The second, in turn, is applied directly to the roadway. It performs a large number of important functions, such as the separation of traffic flows, indicating the boundaries of the roadway, marking lanes, as well as parking spaces. This type of road marking consists of stripes, arrows, inscriptions and symbols, which are made with special reflective paints.

Road marking and its characteristics

Marking must be carried out strictly in accordance with the current rules of the road and other regulatory documents, such as the "Rules for marking the road." In this case, the application of road markings and all related work should be carried out by appropriately trained personnel and on specialized equipment.

The horizontal type of road marking can be of two types: permanent and temporary. Permanent marking is carried out for stationary use and usually has a white color (individual elements can be executed in yellow). Temporary is applied during repair work for short-term changes in the traffic pattern. This marking is done with orange paint. Its distinctive feature is also that the materials with which it is made are easily dismantled.

Currently, road markings are made from a wide variety of materials: reflective paints, enamels, thermoplastics and cold plastic, polymer tapes and piece forms. Reflectors are widely used. Nevertheless, all materials used must certainly comply with the regulatory requirements of the relevant documentation, since the life of the road marking will directly depend on the quality indicators.

Horizontal road marking

Paints and enamels are the most common horizontal marking material, the application technology of which is quite simple and fast. Low cost of work, reasonable price of necessary equipment, short drying time, as well as the ability to apply to absolutely any elements - this is not the whole list of advantages of using these materials.

Now you know what road marking is. And its characteristics are also not a secret!
