early years
Kleipul Forest comes from a working-class family. In the early years, this man was imbued with rock music. His favorite artists of the time included Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin. Kirk Hammett , his classmate, influenced the musical tastes of the young man. He later became the guitarist of Metallica. The forest began to play bass quite early. He took up the instrument at age 14.
Music
In 1986, Claypool Forest successfully auditioned for Metallica. The band was then looking for a bass player who could take the place of the deceased Cliff Burton. The members of the group liked Kleipul, but they did not choose him, because the musician's style of play was not suitable for Metallica. James Hetfield noted that Forest was too good to become a bass player.
In the eighties, Claypool participated in a group called Blind Illusion. Larry Lalond played in the same team. After the release of the album called Sane Asylum (1988), Les Kleipul left the group. Lalond left with him. The musicians founded Primus together. From this moment on, Forest gained wider fame.
In 1993, the band led an alternative festival called Lollapalooza. Musicians in 1995 appeared in a television show with Conan O'Brien and David Letterman. They even became participants in the Woodstock festival. In the nineties, Kleipul, together with members of the Les Claypool And The Holy Mackerel project, released an album called Highball With The Devil.
In 2000, the creative activity of the Primus team temporarily ceased. The forest began to actively participate in other projects. He formed the band Les Claypool's Frog Brigade. With her, the musician released one studio and two concert albums. The team performed works by other bands, including The Beatles, King Crimson and Pink Floyd. Kleipul described Frog Brigade as a group of his own midlife crisis.
In the same period, the musician maintained a collaboration with a band called Oysterhead. The next project of the Forest was called C2B3. Its participants were funky keyboardist Bernie Warrell, guitarist virtuoso Buckethead, as well as Brian Mantle - a former drummer of Primus. Their concerts were held without preliminary rehearsals, so they were improvised shows.
At one of the performances, the musicians even prepared sandwiches for the public directly on the stage. In 2003, Primus reunited and recorded a DVD / EP titled Animals Should Not Try to Act Like People. After that, a two-month tour followed. Since 2004, the team has been giving occasional concerts.
In 2005, Les released the video 5 Gallons Of Diesel. It was a retrospective of all the musician’s work outside the Primus band. He also managed to film Electric Apricot, dedicated to the fictional rock band. In 2006, the solo album of the musician Of Whales and Woe appeared, as well as his first book, entitled South of the Pumphouse.
