Once upon a time, one could not even dream of the diversity that we see today on the shelves of wallpaper showrooms. Today, manufacturers delight us with goods for every taste and budget. In addition to a huge number of colors and patterns, there are several standards for the length and width of the roll. Why is this needed? Why is it so important to be able to choose the size of the wallpaper in a roll? Professionals say that this helps reduce costs, optimally select the right area, and minimize the amount of unsuitable residues. And the features of the room dictate their conditions: somewhere it’s more convenient to work with a narrow strip, and somewhere with a wide one.
Classics of the genre
In Soviet times, the entire wallpaper industry worked on a standard. The size of the wallpaper in a roll at that time was the same for the whole country. The width of the roll was 53 cm, and the length was 10.05 m.
Today, domestic manufacturers often use the same standard. Time has shown that these sizes are convenient for painters, and the number of joints on the walls is not so great, it is perceived quite organically.
In the wallpaper store you can find a wide variety of wallpapers with such sizes. At the same time, the price range is very wide. This can be a wallpaper, the price for a roll of which starts with just a half dollars. But the same dimensions are often possessed by elite-class wallpapers, produced in small runs and, accordingly, very expensive.

They have several undeniable advantages.
Firstly, the vast majority of wallpapers 15 meters long have a uniform color without local elements. This is the very “without selection” dream of everyone who has had a chance to torment at least once with a drawing. The absence of the need to combine the pattern significantly saves time for cutting and gluing, and the amount of waste is minimal. And the seams are perfectly masked.
As for the quality of the coating, in most cases we are talking about ordinary heavy vinyl. When calculating the amount, keep in mind that the area of one roll is exactly one and a half times larger than that of the standard. If, for example, your room needs 9 rolls of ordinary wallpaper, then 15 meters will need only 6. The cost depends on the manufacturer and starts at about 4-5 dollars per roll. The upper limit of the price range is difficult to determine. Among domestic products, there are types of 10-15 dollars, and imports can cost much more.
Wide format
The size of the wallpaper in a roll is twice as large as the standard. With the same length (10.05 m), the strip width is 1.06 meters. Imagine how fewer joints are on the walls! And with competent sticking, they will be invisible at all.
This is a more expensive wallpaper. Price per roll starts at $ 15. But gluing them is much easier! The thing is that the decorative vinyl layer is not planted on a paper base, but on a non-woven one. This material is thinner and impregnated faster, so it does not need to be applied with glue. It is enough to smear them with a wall, attach a sheet of wallpaper to it and carefully smooth it. This greatly reduces the time that will need to be spent on repairs.
Euro standard
Abroad, such a width of wallpaper as 0.7 meters is widespread. From Germany, Holland and France, they began to be delivered to our stores several years ago. During this time, they are very fond of both buyers and craftsmen.
Since such wallpapers are not produced in our country yet, the entire range of products presented is import. The prices for such wallpapers are very high. But among this category just incredible designs come across. By the way, some of them are designed for horizontal gluing of strips, design of local blocks, paintings, panels. They are widely used for zoning spaces and creating unique design solutions.
Maxi format
A great solution for those who love change, are not afraid of experiments - wallpaper for painting. They are white in color and, as a rule, have a very pronounced relief. These wallpapers, whose roll length and width are much larger than all others, seem incredibly massive. A meter height and a diameter of 20-25 centimeters create the illusion of enormous weight. In fact, they are light - and non-woven, used as a base, and foamed vinyl applied to it, weigh very little.
Crate them as easily as all non-woven ones. Just apply glue to the wall, attach a strip, carefully smooth with a special spatula. Do not forget that for non-woven glue you need glue with the corresponding marking on the package. Wallpaper size per roll: 1.06 x 25 meters. By area, one such roll is five ordinary!
Custom types of wallpaper
There are many special wallpapers that are made from bamboo, reed sticks and much more. Today 3D wallpapers, coloring wallpapers, wallpapers with a “surprise” are popular, in which the main pattern is hidden under a special erasable coating.
Wall murals have the widest selection of sizes. Information on them is contained on the packaging. The width of 3D wallpaper usually does not exceed one and a half meters, otherwise it will be too difficult to transport.
